The Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance and Tactical Systems Division is engaged in pioneering research and development focused on sophisticated sensing technologies, signal and image processing, high-performance computing, and advanced networked sensor systems. This initiative aims to enhance surveillance capabilities across various domains including surface, undersea, aerial, and space.

Position Overview

The Division 10 Systems Administrator will work under the direct supervision of the Division 10 IT Manager.

The Division is in search of a Systems Administrator to facilitate research and support various IT operational projects that enhance the Division's performance and align with the strategic goals of MIT Lincoln Laboratory and its Research Groups.

The ideal candidate will possess expertise in implementing computer system solutions, which include provisioning, configuring, and managing diverse operating systems such as Windows and Mac OS, alongside various hardware platforms. Familiarity with DoD IT security protocols and standards, including CMMC, RMF, DFARS, and STIG, is essential. Strong communication skills are required to effectively engage with users and leadership in troubleshooting and problem resolution. Qualified candidates will be responsible for maintaining computer hardware, software, and networks across multiple operating systems, while also providing desktop support as part of a collaborative IT team. The Systems Administrator will liaise with resources from the Division, Information Services Department (ISD), Security Service Department (SSD), and other teams to devise innovative technical solutions for complex IT challenges, and must be adept at working independently while reporting to the Division 10 IT Manager. This role is a full-time position requiring 40 hours of on-site work per week.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in Division 10 IT and security projects, collaborating with Group IT to meet the Division's needs. Establish and uphold the integrity and security of systems and networks, while installing and managing new software and IT tools to support laboratory research. Provide system administration by installing, configuring, and managing both Mac and Windows environments in client/server, virtual infrastructure, and data storage contexts. Conduct system audits, implement hardening measures, and configure firewalls.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills, experience in team environments, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Proven knowledge and experience in Windows and Mac System Administration. Proficiency in troubleshooting server, networking, and storage issues. Understanding of network connectivity, including LAN and WAN protocols. Familiarity with Operating Systems: Windows, OSX, IOS. Experience with software/applications such as SAP, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook), Active Directory, and VMware. Ability to implement administration and service accounts, maintain system documentation, optimize system performance, and manage system-wide software installations. Evaluate and recommend hardware and software purchases.

Essential Skills

Experience with operating system imaging tools. Proficient in provisioning, configuring, and administering systems across various hardware platforms. General systems administration experience with Kerberos, DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, and scripting in Powershell/Command Shell. Capability to diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues. Remediate security vulnerabilities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures. Knowledge of DoD IT security requirements and procedures, including RMF, DFARS, and CMMC. Experience in direct user support for troubleshooting and project assistance. Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Confluence, Jira, Zoom, MS Teams, and SharePoint. Develop and maintain technical and operational documentation to enhance computing environments. Engage in knowledge sharing to improve the overall capability and performance of the IT team.

Additional Requirements

A Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree in Computer and Information Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred. Relevant experience of at least 5 years may substitute for formal education. Candidates must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance. Candidates must achieve 8570 level 2 or higher compliance within 6 months.
