Job Overview:


The Linux Systems Administrator will play a crucial role in managing a diverse range of information technology (IT) operations, focusing on Enterprise Linux environments.

This position involves collaborating with the IT team to enhance and secure computer resources while adhering to IT security protocols.

Successful candidates will exhibit strong communication and organizational skills, capable of juggling multiple responsibilities with minimal oversight.
They will embody a cooperative, service-oriented mindset towards IT.
Key Responsibilities:

Linux Management:

Install and maintain Linux systems, ensuring compliance with security standards, addressing vulnerabilities, and proactively resolving issues through updates and modifications.

Support the deployment and upkeep of desktops and laptops for development and testing purposes.
Collaborate closely with project teams and developers to provide technical expertise for problem-solving.
Install, configure, and oversee Linux servers and desktops, along with some network infrastructure components. Manage commercial software installations as required.

Safeguard the integrity and security of systems, ensuring compliance with security protocols, and promptly addressing vulnerabilities through necessary updates.

Provide comprehensive IT support to all team members, working in conjunction with central IT and Security departments to leverage enterprise services when feasible.

Create documentation for IT systems and processes to meet certification requirements and assist technical staff and end users.
Develop and manage Data Security Plans (DSP) for unique system requirements outside standard security policies.

Create system and network diagrams and clearly communicate system plans; serve as the liaison to the Security Department for implementing and maintaining DSPs.

Utilize scripting and configuration management tools to automate repetitive tasks and manage complex deployments.

Essential Skills:
In-depth knowledge and experience in managing Linux systems (particularly Ubuntu and RedHat)
Proficient in implementing Ansible for both Ubuntu and RedHat environments.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven experience in a collaborative team setting, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Capable of researching, diagnosing, and resolving hardware, software, and networking issues.

Ability to respond promptly and professionally to various user requests, maintaining a positive demeanor.

Strong customer service skills, communication abilities, and troubleshooting expertise are essential.
Comfortable engaging with technically proficient end users.
Install and maintain all commercial software.
Address vulnerabilities through patching and configuration management to ensure compliance with policies.
Coordinate with the Information System Security Officer (ISSO) regarding all group systems.
Strong understanding of DoD RMF and STIG processes.
Document IT procedures.
Familiarity with administering and supporting GitHub and programming environments.
Solid grasp of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, MS Active Directory, and LDAP, especially in binding Linux systems to Active Directory.

Preferred Skills:
Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, including ESXi configuration and VCenter), networking, storage, and user access management.
Knowledge and experience in IP Networking, including LAN, WAN, and an understanding of VLANs and firewalls.
Management of file shares and SAN/NAS environments.
Experience with container technologies and orchestration tools such as Docker, Ansible, Tanzu, or Kubernetes.
Experience in configuring and managing routers and switches.

General experience with collaboration tools like Confluence, Teams, Zoom, and SharePoint, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook).

Experience working directly with end-users, including developers, to troubleshoot both simple and complex environments.
Familiarity with Satellite, ACAS, Splunk, and McAfee/Trellix ePO Server.
Understanding of VMware/vSphere virtual environments, including virtual machine provisioning and resource management (disk, CPU, and RAM monitoring).
Prior knowledge or experience with CMMC compliance.

Education/Experience:


A Bachelor's degree in computer and information science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, along with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience will be considered.
