The Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance and Tactical Systems Division is engaged in pioneering research and development of sophisticated sensing technologies, signal and image processing, high-performance computing, and networked sensor frameworks, alongside decision sciences. This initiative is dedicated to the creation and execution of advanced sensors for surveillance across various domains including surface, undersea, aerial, and extraterrestrial environments.

Position Overview

The Division 10 Systems Administrator will directly report to the Division 10 IT Manager.

The Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance and Tactical Systems Division is on the lookout for a Systems Administrator to facilitate research and bolster numerous IT operational initiatives that enhance the performance and efficiency of the Division, in alignment with the strategic goals and objectives of MIT Lincoln Laboratory and its Research Groups.

The ideal candidate will possess the skills necessary for executing computer system solutions, which include provisioning, configuring, and managing various hardware platforms, as well as adhering to DoD IT security standards and protocols such as CMMC, RMF, DFARS, and STIG. Effective communication with users and leadership regarding problem assessment and troubleshooting is essential, along with the application of appropriate technical skills or vendor methodologies to successfully resolve issues. Qualified candidates will maintain computer hardware, software, and networks across multiple operating systems and provide desktop support as part of a collaborative IT team. The Systems Administrator will work closely with resources from the Division, Information Services Department (ISD), Security Service Department (SSD), and other Lab personnel to devise innovative technical solutions to intricate IT challenges, while being comfortable working independently under the supervision of the Division 10 IT Manager. This is a full-time role requiring 40 hours per week on-site. Candidates with prior experience in DoD systems are particularly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

Support Division 10 IT and security initiatives while collaborating with Group IT needs throughout the Division as necessary. Establish and uphold the integrity and security of systems and networks, installing, maintaining, and administering new software and IT tools to support Laboratory research. Provide system administration, including installation, configuration, and management of Mac and Windows-based environments in client/server, virtual infrastructure, network, and data storage capacities. Conduct system auditing, hardening, and firewall configurations.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills, proven experience in a team-oriented environment, and the capability to complete tasks independently with minimal oversight. Strong knowledge and experience in Windows/Mac System Administration is essential. Ability to troubleshoot technical issues related to servers, networking, and storage. Familiarity with network connectivity and LAN, WAN protocols and principles. Proficiency in Operating Systems: Windows, OSX, IOS. Experience with software/applications such as SAP, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook), Active Directory, and VMware. Responsible for implementing administration and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, and managing system-wide software and mass storage allocation. Evaluate and recommend hardware and software acquisitions.

Essential Skills

Experience with operating system imaging tools. Proficient in provisioning, configuring, and administering systems across various hardware platforms. General systems administration experience involving Kerberos, DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, and Group Policies, as well as Powershell/Command Shell scripting. Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues. Remediate security vulnerabilities to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Knowledge of DoD IT security requirements and protocols including RMF, DFARS, and CMMC. Experience working directly with end-users in troubleshooting and project support. Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Confluence, Jira, Zoom, MS Teams, and SharePoint. Develop and maintain technical and operational documentation to enhance our computing environments. Engage in knowledge sharing to further develop the overall capability and performance of our IT team.

Additional Requirements

A Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree in Computer and Information Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent experience of at least 5 years may be considered. Candidates must possess the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance. Candidates must achieve 8570 level 2 or higher compliance within 6 months.
