Job Overview:


The Linux Systems Administrator will oversee a broad range of information technology (IT) responsibilities across various network and computing resources, with a focus on Enterprise Linux environments.

This role involves actively contributing to the IT department's initiatives to maintain and enhance the organization's computing resources while adhering to government IT security standards.

The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal and organizational capabilities, along with the ability to juggle multiple responsibilities with minimal oversight.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a collaborative, service-oriented mindset in their approach to IT.

The individual will be part of the IT team and must be capable of executing tasks independently while also collaborating effectively within a broader IT division.


Key Responsibilities:

Linux Management:

Install and maintain Linux systems, ensuring compliance with security protocols, addressing scan results, and proactively resolving issues through patching and system modifications.

Deploy and support desktops and laptops for testing and development purposes.

Collaborate closely with project teams and developers to provide technical expertise in problem-solving.

Install, configure, and manage Linux desktops and servers, as well as certain network infrastructure components. Install and maintain necessary commercial software.

Ensure the integrity and security of systems, maintain compliance with security standards, and respond to scan results by proactively addressing issues.

Provide general IT support to all staff members, working in conjunction with central IT and Security departments to leverage enterprise services whenever feasible.

Create documentation on IT systems and procedures to meet certification requirements for technical staff and end users.

Author and manage Data Security Plans (DSP) for unique system and operational needs outside established security policies.

Develop system and network diagrams and succinctly report system plans; act as the liaison to the Security Department in implementing and maintaining DSPs.

Utilize scripting and configuration management tools to automate repetitive tasks and manage complex deployments.



Essential Skills:
A solid foundation in managing Linux systems, particularly Ubuntu and RedHat.
Strong practical experience with Ansible implementation on both Ubuntu and RedHat.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, with proven experience in a team-oriented environment and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to research, diagnose, and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues.
Quick and professional response to diverse user requests, maintaining a positive attitude.
Excellent customer service, communication, and troubleshooting skills are essential.
Comfortable interacting with highly technical end users.
Experience in installing and maintaining commercial software.
Ability to remediate vulnerabilities through patching and configuration management to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
Collaboration with the Information System Security Officer (ISSO) for all group systems.
Understanding of DoD RMF and STIG processes.
Documentation of IT procedures.
Familiarity with administrating and supporting GitHub and programming environments.
Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, MS Active Directory, and LDAP, particularly in binding Linux systems to Active Directory.

Preferred Skills:
Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, including ESXi configuration and VCenter), networking, storage, and user access management.
Skills in IP Networking, including LAN, WAN, and understanding of VLANs and firewalls.
Management of file shares and SAN/NAS environments.
Experience with container technologies and orchestration tools such as Docker, Ansible, Tanzu, or Kubernetes.
Experience in configuring and managing routers and switches.
General experience with collaboration tools like Confluence, Teams, Zoom, and SharePoint, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook).
Experience working directly with end-users, including developers, in troubleshooting both simple and complex environments.
Familiarity with Satellite, ACAS, Splunk, and McAfee/Trellix ePO Server.
Understanding of VMware/vSphere virtual environments, including virtual machine provisioning and resource management (disk, CPU, and RAM monitoring).
Prior knowledge or experience with CMMC compliance.

Education/Experience:


A Bachelor's degree in computer and information science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, combined with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience will be considered.
