Position: Student Technical Assistant in Control and Autonomous Systems

The Control and Autonomous Systems Engineering Group is dedicated to pioneering research and development in the field of autonomy. Our initiatives encompass a wide spectrum, from theoretical exploration to the practical implementation of systems across diverse environments, including maritime, terrestrial, aerial, and space domains.

Role Overview

The Control and Autonomous Systems Engineering Group is in search of a Student Technical Assistant to contribute to our advancements in maritime robotics and autonomous systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support innovative projects in the design and development of autonomous systems.
  • Engage in research that spans both theoretical and practical applications.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to enhance system capabilities.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related discipline, with relevant coursework in robotics, control theory, and programming.
  • Currently pursuing a PhD in robotics engineering or a closely related field.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following areas is preferred:
    • Design and fabrication of maritime robotic platforms (e.g., USVs, UUVs).
    • Adaptive control techniques.
    • Multi-agent systems and collaborative autonomy.
  • Strong programming skills in systems languages (e.g., C++ or Rust), numerical analysis languages (e.g., Julia, MATLAB, or Python), and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, or Lua).
  • Experience with software development using ROS/ROS2 in Linux environments is advantageous.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a collaborative mindset.
  • Effective communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts clearly.

The selected candidate will undergo a pre-employment background investigation and must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
