POSITION DESCRIPTION & OVERVIEW

Title: Financial Operations Manager

Reports To: Director of Finance

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 AM - 4 PM, Daytime, with variations based on business requirements.

Compensation: $105,000 - $115,000 (Dependent on Qualifications)

Job Classification: Salaried-Exempt, Full-time, 40 hours/week

Union Representation: This role is not part of a union.


The Financial Operations Manager will report directly to the Director of Finance and will be responsible for executing routine accounting functions, including overseeing the current team within the Accounting Department.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Supervise the processing of all financial transactions, including Grant/Contracts billings, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, payroll-related transactions, and all account reconciliation activities; ensure accurate data management within financial systems, aligned with source systems.
  • Plan and manage month-end closing processes, annual audits, and other financial compliance requirements.
  • Lead the preparation of financial statements, ensuring adherence to financial regulations, accounting standards, and internal controls.
  • Assist in analyzing financial performance metrics, trends, and variances, providing actionable insights and recommendations to facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Develop and monitor internal controls and process enhancements.
  • Collaborate across departments to support business initiatives and enhance financial performance.
  • Drive the documentation of policies and procedures.
  • Manage and mentor accounting staff (team of four).
  • Contribute to strategic leadership and direction for the accounting function, including financial planning, analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Evaluate, implement, and oversee updates to accounting systems and potential add-on tools that improve Agate's financial management capabilities.
  • Support business initiatives, investment opportunities, and cost-saving strategies to strengthen Agate's financial stability.
  • Safeguard the organization's value by maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Enhance job knowledge through participation in educational opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
  • A minimum of five to seven years of accounting experience.
  • Experience in managing and developing staff.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP, non-profit, etc.), financial reporting (including 990), and budgeting processes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; self-motivated and detail-oriented.
  • Strong communication and presentation abilities.
  • Capability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in accounting software and MS Office applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive materials and information.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • CPA certification and license.
  • Accounting or Finance experience in a nonprofit environment, particularly related to Grants and Contracts.
  • Experience with Federal (Single) Audits.
  • Two to three years of experience in managing and developing staff.
  • Familiarity with Sage Intacct or similar accounting software.

REFERRAL BONUS PROGRAM

If you know someone who would be a great fit for a position at our organization, please refer them. Agate Housing and Services offers a $250 bonus to employees who refer qualified candidates for current openings. The Referral Bonus Form must be submitted to Human Resources within 30 days after the referred employee begins employment. Any forms submitted after this period will not be processed.

To be eligible for rewards, candidates must be hired as permanent full or part-time employees (this excludes on-call, temporary employees, interns, or contract workers).
