Position Title: Clinical Systems Analyst, Epic Solutions

Job Overview:

Objective & Responsibilities:

This role serves as an entry-level analyst position focused on developing Epic application solutions by analyzing processes to comprehend data and communication flows related to specific tasks and transactions.

The analyst often assumes various roles throughout the development, implementation, management, and ongoing support of comprehensive clinical information systems.

Gains insight into the Epic EMR software, alongside understanding medical center operations and workflows, while collaborating with the Epic project team's clinical analysts II, senior analysts, and clinical leaders to translate business requirements into EMR capabilities.

This individual will engage in the development of workflows, system configurations, change documentation, and training staff on Epic clinical application functionalities.

Analyzes procedures and challenges within manual and automated healthcare systems; reports findings and, when applicable, suggests options for resolution. Formulates system scope and objectives. Collaborates with professional staff to ascertain specific requirements and assists in completing programming specifications.

This position necessitates staying current with the system and/or application while interfacing with relevant departmental and external analysts.

Must demonstrate excellent communication skills in sharing information with users within the department.

Key Responsibilities:

Independently completes project tasks and executes the following duties as part of a clinical systems implementation:

  • Building system components;
  • Testing and documenting workflows and other project information;
  • Providing implementation support and maintaining Epic clinical system software;
  • Creating data sets, master files, and reports;
  • Conducting quality assurance and integrated testing, releasing new functionalities to end-users;
  • Reviewing vendor software releases and updates;
  • Offering 24/7 problem management support and resolution for clinical systems.

Additionally, this position requires the ability to interact with clients and demonstrate critical thinking and follow-through when developing solutions to identified issues. Attention to the build and workflow requirements is essential to achieve and maintain federal incentive programs, such as Meaningful Use.

Dedicated focus and resources are necessary to make rapid adjustments to enhance compliance with federal initiatives, reporting outcomes related to patient safety and quality.

The Clinical Systems Applications Analyst is responsible for establishing credibility at all levels, including clinical providers, and building problem-solving partnerships with customers and colleagues.


Educational Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree is required (or four years of equivalent experience).

Preferred Educational Background:
Health Care Administration, Clinical Information Systems, Informatics, Information Technology, or Sciences. RN, RRT, RPH, ARNP, PA degrees may also be acceptable.

Experience Requirements:
  • Over one year of experience in the healthcare industry, preferably in a hospital or major medical center clinical setting.
  • Over one year of EHR experience, either as an analyst or end-user.
  • Knowledge of operational healthcare hospital workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with clinical systems (Epic preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and facilitate multidisciplinary clinician groups as part of clinical information system support is preferred.
  • Experience in educating staff on system usage, preferably in a healthcare environment, is highly desired.
  • Experience in project planning and procedural analysis is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to work with SDLC concepts.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, especially active listening and writing.
  • Ability to complete tasks on time with a focus on detail and organization.
  • Working knowledge of desktop computers and office applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook).
  • Interest and aptitude in healthcare information technology.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service principles.

Certification/Licensure:
Epic Certification:
Application-specific certification to be obtained within six months.
