Position Overview:

The Exhibition Coordinator, under the guidance of a Senior Curator, plays a crucial role in the development and execution of dynamic exhibitions featuring prominent artists from local, national, and international backgrounds.


Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the Curatorial team, Registrar, and Preparators in all facets of collection management and exhibition planning. This includes identifying potential loan opportunities, managing loan agreements, performing data entry, scanning images, creating checklists, and compiling installation specifications.

Ensure adherence to timelines established for exhibition planning.

Support the Curatorial and Marketing teams in the production of exhibition-related materials by sourcing images, obtaining copyright permissions, conducting research as needed, and verifying the accuracy of texts and supplementary materials.

Assist in drafting exhibition-related educational content, including object labels and interpretive texts.

Prepare reports and presentations for potential acquisitions for the Permanent Collection; liaise with the Registrar and engage with donors and galleries as necessary.

In case of an emergency, this role may require the execution of specific job-related tasks at an alternative location.


Qualifications:

Candidates must possess either (a) a Master's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field; (b) a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field along with two years of related experience; or (c) six years of relevant experience.


General Purpose:

The Exhibition Coordinator is integral to the museum's exhibition program, assisting in the stewardship and enhancement of the institution's collection while facilitating effective communication across various departments.


Job Functions:
Support the Curatorial team in all aspects of exhibition planning and collection upkeep.

This includes managing timelines, coordinating lender and artist communications, overseeing exhibition design, generating departmental reports, and maintaining accurate records.

Assist the Curatorial and Marketing teams in the creation of exhibition publications by sourcing images, securing permissions, conducting research, fact-checking, and managing the distribution of catalogues to lenders.

Aid in the preparation of educational materials for docents and proposals for new exhibitions and acquisitions.

In case of an emergency, this role may require the execution of specific job-related tasks at an alternative location.


Additional Responsibilities:
Maintain a thorough understanding of the museum's policies, procedures, and educational initiatives. Uphold the institution's collection and exhibition standards. Provide limited guidance to interns and volunteers on their assigned projects as needed. Participate in community outreach and public programs as required.

The role involves developing procedures for executing a variety of complex tasks within established guidelines, allowing for a degree of autonomy while receiving direction on new assignments.

This position contributes to the conceptualization and realization of exhibitions that enhance understanding of significant works, artists, movements, cultures, or historical contexts in the art world.


Departmental Expectations:
Experience in contemporary art, particularly in curating exhibitions and managing artist projects.
Recent scholarly contributions in modern and contemporary art, especially in public programming and publications.
Strong research, writing, and presentation skills.
Demonstrated administrative and managerial capabilities.
Experience in leading and mentoring staff and volunteers.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
Experience collaborating with development teams on grant proposals.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and database management software.

Maintain confidentiality regarding museum strategies and operations as necessary.

Supervision:
Reports to the Senior Curator and collaborates closely with the Registrar and Preparators.

Public Interaction:
This role involves significant interaction with museum visitors, board members, donors, and media representatives.

Confidentiality:
This position evaluates the confidential nature of exhibition strategies to determine appropriate levels of discretion.
