Mission: For over four decades, Equinox has provided innovative and impactful programs aimed at transforming lives, enabling individuals to progress on their journeys toward recovery, healing, and self-sufficiency.

Service Commitment: Equinox is the leading provider of services for individuals affected by domestic violence in Albany County. Our Domestic Violence Programs ensure safety for victims, including the elderly, and offer essential support, resources, and tools to help them escape abusive situations and regain control over their lives. Our services are inclusive, available to all victims and their dependent children, irrespective of gender, age, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

Additionally, this position engages with clients throughout the Coordinated Entry process, employing the Housing First Model to facilitate the housing search, application, and transition into new homes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and pursue available housing options, working alongside landlords and case managers to support clients in securing and maintaining housing, including eviction prevention strategies.

  • Maintain and communicate an updated list of available housing options during weekly meetings and as required.
  • In collaboration with the assigned Case Manager and the client, assess barriers, preferences, needs, and goals to facilitate successful apartment transitions.
  • Assist clients in visiting potential housing units, completing applications, engaging with landlords and property managers, providing transportation to housing-related appointments, interpreting leases, and understanding tenant rights and responsibilities.
  • Network and collaborate with local housing resources, maintaining an active presence at all Domestic Violence program Case Reviews, Albany County Coordinated Entry meetings, and other relevant committees.
  • Achieve assigned outcome goals related to rental property contacts, new property owner engagement, number of individuals served, and successful housing placements.
  • Mediate and negotiate with landlords to resolve housing-related challenges, providing necessary support to maintain housing stability in coordination with case managers.
  • Assist clients in gathering required documentation for housing programs and applications.
  • Develop safety plans focused on community safety for clients as needed.
  • Connect clients with appropriate community services, including furniture, housewares, food pantries, and other low-cost housing resources, as well as additional Equinox services.
  • Maintain accurate case records and complete necessary paperwork and reporting for the agency and funding sources.
  • Support clients with moving belongings, including bags and small boxes.
  • Respond to the 24-hour hotline, providing information and referrals, conducting shelter intakes, and scheduling counseling appointments as necessary.
  • Participate in staff meetings, program events, training sessions, and serve on committees as required.

  • Effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks in an organized manner.
  • Uphold strict client confidentiality while engaging with a diverse population.
  • Provide objective supportive listening and guidance.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal forms.
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
