RESIDENT SUPPORT SPECIALIST

POSITION SUMMARY: This role is essential in advancing the objectives of the Housing Authority through initiatives aimed at fostering positive relationships between residents and management. The individual in this position will engage in community service activities that cater to the diverse needs of residents, focusing on health, education, and welfare. Responsibilities include facilitating tenant programs, addressing inquiries, providing guidance through discussions and home visits, and serving as a communication bridge between residents and management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Offer residents information regarding the availability of public agencies and resources beneficial to low-income housing inhabitants.
  • Provide advice to residents and their families on employment services, health care, community resources, and educational prospects.
  • Disseminate updates and changes in policies or management that impact tenants through flyers or informal gatherings.
  • Stay informed about city, state, and federal assistance programs and share this information with residents through brochures or meetings.
  • Participate in discussions and attend meetings with residents and management to facilitate communication.
  • Prepare necessary reports as required.
  • Assist in the implementation and organization of programs offered by public agencies within Housing Authority developments.
  • Utilize automated information systems for data entry and retrieval.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in the use of personal computers and office equipment.
  • Familiarity with local public facilities and service organizations.
  • Understanding of the Authority's public housing policies.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others.
  • Capability to gain the cooperation of others.
  • Demonstrated good judgment and resourcefulness.
  • Commitment to uphold the image and integrity of the Albany Housing Authority.
  • Exhibit tact and courtesy in all interactions.
  • Physical condition suitable for the demands of the role.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

(A) High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of full-time experience in social welfare, community services, casework, or public administration; OR

(B) Four (4) years of full-time experience in related fields; OR

(C) A combination of training and experience as described in (A) and (B).
