Role Summary: The LGBTQ+ Housing Support Specialist will deliver extensive housing assistance and guidance to LGBTQ+ individuals and families facing housing challenges or homelessness. This role is essential in ensuring clients have access to secure, stable, and affordable housing while helping them navigate the intricacies of the housing landscape.
Core Responsibilities:
- Perform thorough housing evaluations to assess clients' requirements and eligibility for various housing initiatives.
- Guide clients in finding, securing, furnishing, and sustaining suitable housing.
- Offer crisis intervention and support to clients dealing with housing crises or homelessness.
- Establish and nurture partnerships with local landlords, housing providers, and community organizations to facilitate housing placements.
- Advocate for clients to ensure they receive fair and just treatment in the housing sector.
- Provide information and referrals for additional support services, including employment, healthcare, and legal aid.
- Maintain comprehensive and precise records of client interactions and progress.
- Engage in community outreach and educational initiatives to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ housing challenges.
- Collaborate with other team members at In Our Own Voices to coordinate services and support for clients.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Demonstrated experience working with LGBTQ+ individuals and communities, especially those from marginalized backgrounds.
- Familiarity with housing resources and programs, as well as knowledge of fair housing regulations and tenant rights.
- Strong advocacy capabilities and the ability to navigate complex systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
- Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field.
- Two or more years of experience in housing advocacy or a related area.
- Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or other forms of trauma.
- Knowledge of local housing markets and resources.
Skills:
- Crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
- Creative and strategic problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in data collection and reporting.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals and families.
