Position Overview
The Community Health Nutritionist is responsible for spearheading initiatives and programs that aim to enhance the nutritional knowledge and practices of families and children in underserved communities. This role focuses on promoting healthy eating habits, particularly in relation to fruit and vegetable intake, as well as managing chronic health conditions such as diabetes and hypertension.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement nutrition education strategies using evidence-based curricula tailored for diverse audiences.
  • Conduct engaging cooking demonstrations at community and school-based markets.
  • Provide training on dietary health and nutrition topics to team members, including market leaders and volunteers.
  • Ensure that all food samples and children's activities align with best practices and research standards.
  • Review and guide menu and recipe development to comply with dietary guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Healthy Foods Director to establish a nutrition internship program.
  • Supervise and mentor nutrition interns, fostering their professional growth.
  • Develop metrics to assess the effectiveness of nutrition programs in collaboration with the evaluation team.
  • Analyze and report on program outcomes related to nutrition knowledge and behaviors.
  • Work with the Healthy Foods Market Team to create health communication campaigns and materials.
  • Partner with local organizations to facilitate access to food resources.
  • Represent the organization at various health and wellness forums.
  • Stay informed about nutrition policies and best practices.
  • Support and occasionally lead school-based market initiatives.
  • Participate in community events to promote nutrition education.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, upholding the organization's mission and values.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in nutrition or a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Experience working with diverse populations in low-access neighborhoods.
  • Proficient in using digital tools including Word, Excel, and Google applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with various community stakeholders.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition or a related discipline is required.
  • Certification as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is preferred.
  • A Master's degree in Nutrition may substitute for certification.
  • Food Manager's Certification is also required.

Work Environment
The role is typically performed in a moderate noise environment, utilizing standard office equipment. A satisfactory background check is a prerequisite for employment.
