Position Summary: The Community Nutrition Educator will spearhead initiatives and programs designed to assist families and children in underserved areas with nutrition education. The goal is to 1) promote healthy eating habits focusing on fruits and vegetables, food preparation, storage, and shopping skills, and 2) reduce the prevalence and improve the management of chronic health issues such as diabetes and hypertension.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement nutrition education strategies using evidence-based curricula tailored for diverse audiences.
  • Conduct engaging cooking demonstrations at community and school-based markets.
  • Provide training on nutrition topics to team members, including market leaders and volunteers.
  • Ensure that food samples and activities for the Joyful Food Market program are based on sound research and practices.
  • Review and guide menu and recipe development to align with USDA dietary guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Healthy Foods Director to create a nutrition internship program.
  • Supervise and mentor nutrition interns.
  • Establish metrics for evaluating dietary health programs in partnership with the Learning, Evaluation, and Research team.
  • Analyze and report on program outcomes related to nutrition knowledge and behaviors.
  • Assist in planning health communication campaigns in collaboration with the Healthy Foods Market Team.
  • Work with food access partners to develop referral pathways to relevant programs.
  • Represent Martha's Table at various community events and discussions on health and wellness.
  • Stay informed about local and national nutrition policies and best practices.
  • Support and occasionally lead school-based market initiatives.
  • Participate in community anchor events.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Martha's Table's mission and core values of compassion, respect, teamwork, and accountability.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Experience working with families in low-access neighborhoods.
  • Proficient in leading nutrition education activities across various age groups.
  • Ability to coach team members in implementing nutrition curricula.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse groups.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition or a related field is required.
  • Certification as a Registered Dietitian (RD), Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), or Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) is necessary.
  • A Master's degree in Nutrition may substitute for the above certifications.
  • Food Manager's Certification is required.

Work Environment: The work environment is typically moderate in noise level, and employees will use standard office equipment, including computers.
