Position Overview
The Nutrition Program Specialist will spearhead initiatives and activities designed to assist families and children in underserved communities with nutrition education. The goal is to enhance healthy eating habits related to fruit and vegetable intake, food preparation, storage, and shopping, while also addressing chronic health issues such as diabetes and hypertension.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement nutrition education strategies using evidence-based curricula tailored for diverse audiences in community settings.
  • Conduct engaging cooking demonstrations at community markets to promote healthy eating.
  • Provide training on nutrition topics to team members, including market leaders and volunteers, focusing on dietary health and food safety.
  • Ensure that recipe development and food sampling for community programs align with research-based practices.
  • Collaborate with the Healthy Foods Director to create and manage a nutrition internship program.
  • Supervise and mentor nutrition interns, fostering their professional growth.
  • Establish metrics for evaluating dietary health programs in partnership with the evaluation team.
  • Analyze and report on program outcomes related to nutrition knowledge and behaviors.
  • Assist in planning health communication campaigns in collaboration with the communications team.
  • Work with food access partners to develop referral pathways to nutrition assistance programs.
  • Represent the organization at community events and forums on health and wellness topics.
  • Stay informed about local and national nutrition policies and best practices.
  • Support and lead community-based nutrition education initiatives.
  • Participate in key organizational events as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, demonstrating commitment to the organization's mission and values.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in nutrition or a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Experience working with diverse populations in low-access neighborhoods.
  • Proven ability to lead nutrition education activities across various age groups.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with diverse groups.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition or a related discipline is required.
  • Certification as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is preferred.
  • A Master's degree in Nutrition may substitute for certification.
  • Food Manager's Certification is required.

Work Environment
