The Railroad Commission of Texas, recognized as a leader in oil and gas regulation, is looking for an Engineering Specialist II or III to provide technical expertise in the Injection/Storage Permits Unit within the Oil and Gas Division. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting thorough reviews of injection well permit applications to assess well integrity and environmental protection.
  • Collecting, validating, and analyzing data related to injection well operations.
  • Preparing technical documents, plans, and reports to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Inspecting applicant and operator work for adherence to laws and specifications.
  • Generating correspondence and technical reports.
  • Performing engineering assessments, modeling, and monitoring activities.
  • Providing technical guidance on data evaluation and research coordination.
  • Assisting in planning work projects and training others as needed.
  • Executing additional related tasks to maintain workflow efficiency.

Qualifications:

Engineering Specialist II:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geoscience, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Texas Driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Experience and education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Engineering Specialist III:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geoscience or Engineering (Petroleum, Environmental, or Mining) from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Texas Driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in oil field technical activities or similar geological or engineering roles.
  • Experience and education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist license in Texas.
  • Five years of experience in oil field technical activities or related engineering or geological work.
  • Familiarity with Railroad Commission's regulations and procedures.
  • Experience with geographic information systems, geologic software, data analysis, and programming (IHS Petra, ArcGIS, Python, VBA, SQL).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in engineering and data analysis techniques.
  • Ability to apply engineering concepts, conduct inspections, and communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of engineering and geosciences principles and testing methods.
  • Skill in scientific data management and use of applicable software.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate projects and work independently or as part of a team.

Work Hours: Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Alternate schedules and telework options may be available based on operational needs.
