The Railroad Commission of Texas, a recognized leader in oil and gas regulation, is seeking an Engineering Specialist II or III to perform technical work within the Injection/Storage Permits Unit of the Oil and Gas Division. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting thorough reviews of injection well completion and surrounding wells to ensure the integrity of injected fluids.
  • Collecting, validating, and analyzing data related to injection well operations.
  • Preparing plans, specifications, estimates, reports, and related documentation to ensure compliance with applicable laws and standards.
  • Inspecting the work of applicants and operators for adherence to regulations.
  • Drafting correspondence and technical reports.
  • Performing engineering or environmental assessments, modeling, and monitoring.
  • Providing technical guidance on data evaluation, research coordination, and issue analysis.
  • Assisting with project planning and may provide training to others.
  • Executing additional related tasks to maintain workflow efficiency.

Qualifications:

Engineering Specialist II:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geoscience, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Texas Driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Experience and education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Engineering Specialist III:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geoscience or Engineering (Petroleum, Environmental, or Mining) from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Texas Driver's license with a good driving record.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in oil field technical activities or similar geological or engineering work.
  • Experience and education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist license in Texas.
  • Five years of experience in oil field technical activities or similar engineering or geological work.
  • Familiarity with the Railroad Commission's rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience with geographic information systems, geologic software, data analysis, and programming, particularly in IHS Petra, ArcGIS, Python, VBA, or SQL.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in engineering and data analysis techniques.
  • Ability to apply engineering concepts, conduct inspections, and analyze data effectively.
  • Knowledge of engineering and geosciences principles, testing methods, and technology applications.
  • Skilled in scientific data management and geological data assessment.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Capability to maintain a professional demeanor and appearance.

Work Hours: Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Alternate schedules and telework options may be available based on operational needs.
