Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Liver Transplant Coordinator to oversee all aspects of care for transplant patients, their families, and living donors, ensuring the highest standards of service are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-transplant assessments and prepare cases for the medical review board.
  • Facilitate the organ transplant and living donation processes.
  • Provide education to in-patient transplant recipients, including discharge instructions and outpatient care planning.
  • Manage care coordination for post-liver transplant patients.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, with a focus on regulatory compliance.
  • Evaluate and identify suitable candidates upon referral, collaborating with relevant staff.
  • Gather essential medical data, including blood type and tissue typing, in accordance with transplant center protocols.
  • Educate candidates and their families about the entire transplantation process, from referral to post-transplant care.
  • Understand and comply with OPTN regulations and organ allocation processes.
  • Prepare evaluation findings for presentation at the multidisciplinary Medical Review Board.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of donor and recipient information.
  • Coordinate transportation of teams and organs between donor hospitals and transplant centers.
  • Support ongoing clinical research initiatives within the transplant center.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or an associate's degree with current enrollment in a BSN program.
  • Current RN License from the Texas Board of Nursing or Nurse License Compact.
  • Basic Life Support (CPR) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • At least 2 years of experience in Pediatric or solid organ transplant nursing.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of renal, liver, heart, and lung pathophysiology as well as the transplant process.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical competencies tailored to the specific needs of patients based on age and diagnosis.
