Position Overview:
As an Advanced Practice Nurse in the Lung Transplant Program, you will provide specialized nursing care to patients facing complex acute, critical, and chronic health challenges in both clinic and hospital environments under physician supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute complex patient care procedures requiring specialized training, typically performed by a physician.
- Conduct independent and physician-supervised rounds on the unit.
- Perform thorough patient evaluations and assessments, administering appropriate treatments, including medication management.
- Develop, coordinate, and implement comprehensive care plans for patients.
- Gather patient histories, screen for co-morbidities, and offer preventive health guidance.
- Conduct physical examinations and provide episodic or problem-oriented care under physician oversight.
- Order and interpret laboratory, diagnostic, and radiographic tests.
- Monitor patient treatment programs and communicate essential medical information to the attending physician.
- Facilitate patient education on medical processes, medications, nutrition, and health promotion.
- Assist physicians in making therapeutic decisions.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare charts for physician review.
- Manage supplies and equipment effectively.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations.
- Operate within the scope of practice defined by licensure and certification.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Additional Information:
Engage in quality improvement initiatives and assist in procedural tasks alongside attending physicians.
Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday with required weekend coverage for inpatient rounding.
Qualifications:
Current Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse and as an APRN-NP, along with relevant specialty certification as required by the department. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or specialty certification as mandated.
Education:
A Master's degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner or a Master's degree in Nursing with completion of a post-master's Nurse Practitioner Certification Program.
Experience:
No prior experience required; however, previous clinical experience in the relevant area is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Security Sensitive:
This position may involve responsibilities that are security sensitive, adhering to Texas Education Code § 51.
Veteran Information:
Military occupations relevant to the qualifications for this position may include but are not limited to various healthcare-related roles.
Residency Requirement:
Employees must reside and work within the State of Texas.
