POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Water Billing Coordinator plays a crucial role in managing the utility billing and meter operations for the organization. This position entails providing exceptional customer service to over 5,600 clients, preparing monthly billing statements, and overseeing the collection of approximately $23 million annually. Additionally, the coordinator ensures the accuracy and reliability of the City's billing and meter reading systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the monthly billing process for water and stormwater utilities, including penalty assessments and related notifications such as collections, final bills, and shut-off warnings; maintain comprehensive records of accounts and meter data.
  • Address inquiries from staff and customers regarding billing and meter readings; conduct thorough research and analysis of account histories to resolve billing discrepancies and ensure prompt resolution of urgent issues.
  • Prepare month-end and year-end financial closing entries, perform account reconciliations, and generate necessary reports.
  • Manage the meter data collection and reading processes, coordinating with field crews to ensure accurate and timely service; analyze usage data and handle service requests effectively.
  • Support other customer service functions within Public Works and Public Utilities, providing backup assistance as needed.
  • Develop analytical reports and queries to identify and troubleshoot issues related to meter data.
  • Ensure efficient handling of service requests by coordinating with field crews and maintaining accurate records.
  • Compile and prepare reports, documents, and historical data to assist in responding to inquiries from staff and customers.
  • Configure water utility data management software to facilitate analysis of water usage, rates, and potential system issues.
  • Collaborate closely with the City Engineering Department, Public Utilities Engineering, and the Finance Department.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or four years of experience in finance, accounting, billing, or a related area.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years of experience in a utility or public enterprise environment, focusing on data analysis, project management, and budget oversight.
  • Familiarity with water utility operations and software systems such as Eden, Water Smart, and Sensus Analytics.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Primarily office-based work environment.
  • Occasional exposure to high-pressure situations while assisting customers.
  • May involve limited travel for meetings and training sessions.
