POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Water Billing Coordinator plays a pivotal role in managing the utility billing and meter operations for the municipality. This position is tasked with delivering exceptional customer service to over 5,600 clients, generating monthly billing statements, and overseeing the collection of approximately $23 million annually. The coordinator ensures the accuracy and reliability of the City's billing and meter reading systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administer the monthly billing process for water and stormwater utilities, including penalty assessments and related notifications such as collections, final bills, and shut-off warnings.
  • Address inquiries from staff and customers regarding billing, meter readings, and other service-related matters; conduct thorough research and analysis of account histories to resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare month-end and year-end financial adjustments, account reconciliations, and comprehensive reporting.
  • Oversee the meter data collection and reading processes, coordinating with field teams to ensure accurate and timely service delivery.
  • Support other customer service functions within Public Works and Public Utilities, stepping in for team members as necessary.
  • Develop analytical reports and queries to identify and troubleshoot issues with meter data.
  • Manage the Service Request process, ensuring timely handling of all requests by field personnel.
  • Compile and maintain reports, documents, and historical data to assist in responding to inquiries from staff and customers.
  • Configure water utility data management software to facilitate analysis of water usage, rates, and potential system issues.
  • Collaborate closely with the City Engineering Department, Public Utilities Engineering, and the Finance Department.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or four years of experience in finance, accounting, billing, or a related discipline.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years of experience in a utility or public enterprise environment focusing on data analysis, project management, and budget oversight.
  • Familiarity with water utility operations and software systems such as Eden, Water Smart, and Sensus Analytics.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Primarily office-based work environment.
  • Occasional exposure to high-pressure situations while interacting with customers.
  • May involve limited travel for meetings and training sessions.
