Accountable to: Senior Camp Team, Area Manager, and Central Office. Barracudas is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of children and young individuals, expecting all staff to uphold this commitment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF A GROUP LEADER

  • Assist in establishing and maintaining an engaging base room that is welcoming for children while ensuring cleanliness and proper storage of equipment.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures to guarantee a fun and secure environment for the children under your supervision.
  • Implement the daily activity schedule to provide a diverse range of engaging sessions.
  • Collaborate with the broader staff team to deliver activities effectively.
  • Ensure the needs of the children are met through active supervision and attention throughout the day, including during breaks and meal times.
  • Utilize available resources to plan and execute a variety of age-appropriate activities with enthusiasm and structure.
  • Encourage full participation from all children in the group.
  • Build relationships with the children to understand their interests and incorporate these into their daily camp experience.
  • Take responsibility for the overall welfare and safeguarding of the children.
  • Ensure the safe use of equipment during sessions and that it is stored correctly afterward.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience or qualifications in working with children.
  • Must be 18 years or older by the start of the contract.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Provision of satisfactory professional or academic references.
  • Enthusiastic, caring, and organized with excellent communication skills and the ability to use initiative.
  • Ability to adapt and effectively handle unpredictable challenges in a childcare environment.
  • Obtain an enhanced DBS check through Barracudas or possess an existing enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
  • Participation in a Virtual Assessment Event if new to Barracudas.
  • Completion of annual Online Training.
  • Attendance at an Induction Training Day prior to the first working season.
  • Assistance with the end-of-camp pack-up.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety regulations by following instructions and demonstrating a proactive approach to safety.
  • Activities organized and delivered must be suitable for the children in your care, within the scope of your qualifications and knowledge.
  • Encourage children to engage in new activities and ensure adherence to the activity timetable.
  • Maintain awareness of children's safety and whereabouts, treating them as individuals and communicating daily about behavior expectations.
  • Follow all camp protocols, including registration and collection procedures, Health and Safety guidelines, and best practices in child welfare.
  • Serve as a positive role model by promoting healthy lifestyles and good hygiene practices.
  • Report any concerns regarding Child Protection to the Management Team or the designated person at Central Office.
  • Make reasonable adjustments to accommodate the needs of children with additional requirements.
  • Depending on staff availability, you may be asked to lead Skills Builder sessions.
  • All staff may be required to assist with swimming sessions.
  • This list is not exhaustive, and you may be expected to perform various tasks as required by your role and the organization's objectives.
