Reporting To: Senior Camp Team, Area Manager, and Central Office. Barracudas is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, expecting all staff to share this commitment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE GROUP LEADER

  • Assist in establishing and maintaining an inviting base room area for children while ensuring cleanliness and proper storage of equipment.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures to guarantee a fun and safe environment for the children in your care.
  • Follow the daily activity schedule to deliver a diverse range of engaging sessions.
  • Collaborate with the broader staff team to facilitate activities.
  • Ensure the needs of the children are met through active supervision and attention throughout the day, including during breaks and lunch.
  • Utilize available resources to plan and execute a variety of age-appropriate activities with enthusiasm and structure.
  • Encourage full participation from all children in the group.
  • Foster individual relationships with children to understand their interests and incorporate these into their camp experience.
  • Take responsibility for the overall welfare and safeguarding of the children.
  • Ensure safe handling and storage of equipment used during sessions.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience or qualifications in working with children.
  • Must be 18 years or older by the contract start date.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Provision of satisfactory professional or academic references.
  • Enthusiastic, caring, and organized with excellent communication skills and the ability to use initiative.
  • Ability to adapt and effectively manage unpredictable challenges in a childcare setting.
  • Obtain an enhanced DBS check through Barracudas or possess an existing enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
  • Attend a Virtual Assessment Event if new to Barracudas.
  • Complete annual Online Training.
  • Participate in an Induction Training Day prior to the first working season.
  • Assist with the end-of-camp pack-up.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety obligations by following instructions and maintaining a proactive approach to safety issues.
  • Organize and deliver activities appropriate for the children based on your qualifications and skills.
  • Encourage children to engage in new activities as per the scheduled program.
  • Ensure children under supervision behave safely, always knowing their whereabouts and respecting them as individuals.
  • Follow all camp systems, including registration, collection procedures, and Health and Safety guidelines while supporting colleagues.
  • Serve as a positive role model by promoting a healthy lifestyle and good hygiene practices.
  • Report any concerns regarding Child Protection to the Management Team or the Designated Person at Central Office.
  • Make reasonable adjustments to accommodate children with additional needs or medical conditions.
  • Depending on staff availability, you may be required to lead Skills Builder sessions.
  • All staff may be required to assist with swimming sessions.
