Job Overview

Objective: To foster and enhance a culture of recovery within JFK Behavioral Health Center by instilling hope and positivity among peers through supportive relationships, sharing personal success stories, and promoting beneficial experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

Contribute to the establishment of a recovery-oriented environment by:

  • Engaging with individuals in recovery, recognizing their strengths and available support systems, and connecting them with community resources.
  • Building partnerships with peers and their families by disseminating information about available support services and community resources.
  • Providing educational opportunities for individuals in recovery, staff, and family members through the facilitation of Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) sessions and self-help/mutual support groups.
  • Co-facilitating gatherings to promote a culture of peer support, such as community meetings and peer councils.
  • Accompanying and assisting individuals in recovery in social, educational, and occupational skill-building activities while offering hands-on support to develop self-advocacy skills.
  • Completing all necessary program documentation.
  • Participating in team meetings and contributing to case discussions.
  • Attending training sessions and continuing education courses as recommended.
  • Complying with all JFK policies and procedures, including confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
  • Assisting in managing peer crisis situations both at JFK and within the community.
  • Conducting outreach activities to re-engage peers in program initiatives, either in person or via telephone.

Qualifications:

  • Peer Specialist Certification [Must complete CEU credits to maintain certification]
  • Current or former recipient of mental health and/or co-occurring services with a readiness to share personal recovery narratives.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of WRAP training and WRAP Facilitator training within the first year of employment.

Work Schedule: Part-time, 18 hours per week

Work Location: Center City Philadelphia
