COMHAR, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Peer Support Recovery Coach for our HOPE PROGRAM. This role is pivotal in assisting individuals on their recovery journey by promoting awareness and accessibility of community services. The Peer Recovery Coach serves as a source of inspiration, sharing personal experiences and insights gained through their own recovery journey.
The HOPE (Helping Opportunities for People's Empowerment) program is a community-oriented psychiatric rehabilitation initiative, integral to COMHAR's CIRC (Community Integrated Recovery Center) model, catering to adults and seniors.
This position operates on a Fee for Service basis. A mandatory 12-hour orientation, along with additional training on psychiatric rehabilitation, is required within the first year of employment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage with individuals at risk, providing tailored recovery education and support, including motivational interviewing techniques.
- Facilitate orientation processes, lead group sessions, and co-facilitate meetings for newcomers to mental health and co-occurring disorder services.
- Educate and involve individuals in the Wellness Recovery Action Plan process.
- Assist in the creation and execution of educational and support groups, as well as community activities deemed beneficial.
- Connect individuals with community resources and peer support systems to enhance community integration.
- Support individuals in reconnecting with family, friends, and significant others, while guiding them in improving or eliminating unhealthy relationships.
- Advocate for mental health awareness and co-occurring disorders within the community, aiming to reduce stigma and misconceptions.
- Provide training and orientation for new staff to foster understanding and acceptance of recovery concepts and to promote a supportive peer culture.
- Participate in meetings, task forces, and advisory boards as designated by regulatory bodies and/or COMHAR.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- At least 12 months of successful paid or volunteer experience in direct mental health services within the last three years, or one year of post-secondary education totaling 24 credit hours.
- Minimum of one year of paid or volunteer experience in mental health direct service.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.
- Completion of a Peer Specialist certification program approved by the Department is necessary.
