Job Summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Human Trafficking Peer Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will provide intensive peer support to survivors of human trafficking, utilizing your lived expertise to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those affected by this devastating issue.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assessment and Support: Conduct thorough biopsychosocial assessments to identify the goals, strengths, and needs of survivors, and provide individualized support to help them achieve their goals.
  • Collaboration and Partnerships: Work closely with multiple partnerships, including WRAP court and Police Assisted Diversion Program, to provide comprehensive survivor-centered services and mentorship.
  • Group Facilitation: Develop and facilitate monthly survivor support groups, creating a safe and supportive environment for survivors to share their experiences and connect with others who have faced similar challenges.
  • Supervision and Leadership: Supervise the Anti-Trafficking Peer Mentor, providing weekly trauma-informed supervision and guidance to ensure the highest level of support for survivors.
  • Program Development: Facilitate monthly Survivor Advisory Board meetings to provide oversight and feedback on all of The New Day To Stop Trafficking Program services, ensuring that the needs of survivors are met and their voices are heard.
  • Referrals and Resource Navigation: Make referrals for clients to outside agencies, including housing, drug and alcohol recovery services, medical services, mental health services, financial assistance, and educational/job training services, and support clients in navigating and accessing sustainable, long-term supports.
  • Documentation and Data Collection: Timely and accurately document progress, problems, and services in the client record and database, ensuring that client confidentiality is maintained and ongoing data collection and entry into Service Point is completed for all cases.
  • Strengths-Based Approach: Utilize a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach to client interaction, based on the Sanctuary Model, to ensure that survivors receive the highest level of care and support.
Requirements
  • Certification: Certified Peer Specialist or Certified Recovery Specialist certification required.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: One to two years of experience in a related field, with a minimum of two years removed from lived HT experience.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Must have an understanding of the issue of domestic and foreign human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation, as well as experience with trauma-informed care and the Sanctuary Model for trauma-informed services. Bilingual, Spanish/English, preferred. Driver's License preferred. Must be computer literate and skilled in Word and Excel.
  • Clearances: Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check.
  • Training: Must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment, with recurrent training required every five years thereafter.
