Position Overview

At COMHAR, our commitment is to deliver health and human services that empower individuals, families, and communities to achieve healthier, self-directed lives. We are currently seeking a Certified Peer Specialist for our HOPE initiative.

The HOPE (Helping Opportunities for People's Empowerment) initiative is a community-based psychiatric rehabilitation program designed for adults and seniors, forming part of COMHAR's Community Integrated Recovery Center (CIRC) model.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a role model for individuals in recovery, fostering hope and sharing personal experiences and insights gained through recovery.
  • Engage with at-risk individuals, providing stage-appropriate recovery education and support, including the use of a leveling system and evidence-based practices.
  • Facilitate the orientation process for newcomers to mental health and/or co-occurring disorder services.
  • Assist in the creation and execution of educational and support groups, along with activities that benefit the program community, such as warm lines and event calendars.
  • Connect individuals to community resources and peer support outside the facility to enhance community integration, including training in public transportation, computer education/G.E.D. classes, vocational services, health and wellness programs, and financial entitlements.
  • Actively engage in team meetings, promoting a recovery-oriented perspective in all discussions.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED, along with a Certified Peer Specialist Certification (CPS).
  • Proficiency in both Spanish and English.
  • Experience working with individuals facing co-occurring challenges, including mental health and substance use issues.
  • A minimum of one year of direct service experience in mental health, which can include paid or volunteer work. Forensic training is advantageous.
