Position Overview

COMPASS After-School Program Assistant Educator

Location: COMPASS Programs

Role Type: Part-Time, Hourly

Availability: Must be consistently available during the academic year, specifically Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2:15 PM to 6:00 PM, and Wednesdays from 12:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Additional hours during holiday camps are required.

Compensation: $20.00 per hour

Position Summary:

The Education and Youth Development programs aim to provide enriching after-school learning experiences for middle school students. The role involves offering academic support, engaging enrichment activities, and facilitating a safe and stimulating environment for children aged 11-14.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the lead educator to design and implement engaging, hands-on, and project-oriented lessons that align with the thematic curriculum.
  • Prepare and submit lesson plans for review and approval by the program site director and Education Specialist.
  • Assist in planning educational field trips and provide supervision to students during these outings.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training sessions as required.
  • Utilize innovative teaching methods to foster literacy skills, social-emotional development, and STEAM education.
  • Help organize culminating events that showcase student learning and creativity.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and families as directed by the site director.
  • Supervise groups of 20-30 students during various activities and transitions.
  • Ensure authorized pick-up of children by parents or guardians.
  • Assist in preparing materials and activities for daily programming.
  • Engage in agency-wide meetings and collaborative efforts as necessary.
  • Support the development of funding proposals when needed.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma is required; some college education is preferred.
  • Experience working with youth in after-school or summer camp settings is essential.
  • Flexibility to cover various after-school programs as needed.
  • A genuine passion for working with children and the ability to pass background checks with relevant authorities.
  • Previous experience as an assistant teacher is advantageous.
  • Background in STEAM, visual arts, performing arts, or sports coaching is a plus.
  • Proficiency in digital tools, video conferencing, and email communication is preferred.
