Position Title: Upper School Head Math Teacher

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Division Director

Role Summary
The Head Math Teacher plays a crucial role in supporting the school's mission by ensuring the safety and well-being of students in various educational settings. This position involves fostering both academic and social-emotional growth through the design of a challenging and developmentally appropriate curriculum tailored for students with learning disabilities. The integration of Quaker beliefs and practices is essential in all interactions with students, colleagues, families, and the wider community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adapt teaching strategies, instructional materials, and assessment methods to cater to the diverse needs and interests of students.
  • Implement personalized and differentiated plans for homework, organization, and behavior; provide timely feedback on assignments.
  • Engage in all Committee on Special Education (CSE) reviews and meetings.
  • Collaborate with division directors, academic deans, and specialists to address student needs effectively.
  • Contribute to the development, assessment, and enhancement of school programs alongside fellow educators and administrators.
  • Prepare and submit timely reports, grades, recommendations, and evaluations as required.
  • Act as an advocate for homeroom students, supporting their relationships with faculty and serving as the primary contact for parents.
  • Oversee homeroom students during school-wide activities and events.
  • Engage fully in the school community, participating in professional development, committees, faculty meetings, and other school activities.
  • Supervise student activities, including study halls, trips, and clubs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Position Type and Work Schedule:

This is a full-time, exempt position that follows the academic calendar. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, with scheduled faculty meetings and potential evening or weekend commitments as necessary.

Travel Requirements:

Occasional travel between campuses may be required for meetings, with prior notice provided.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

This role necessitates the physical ability to navigate the school environment and ensure student safety. Responsibilities may include standing or bending for extended periods and teaching in various classroom settings.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field; experience in special education is advantageous.
  • 3-5 years of direct teaching experience; experience in independent or charter schools is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills with parents, students, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to equity and justice, with knowledge of cultural competencies.
  • Familiarity with educational technologies; experience with GSuite and Veracross is beneficial.
