Position Overview

COMPASS After-School Program Assistant Educator

Location: COMPASS Programs

Role Type: Part-Time - Hourly

Working Hours: Regular availability required during the academic year - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2:15 PM to 6:00 PM; Wednesdays from 12:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Additional hours during holiday camps.

Compensation: $20.00/hour

Position Summary:

The Education and Youth Development initiatives offer enriching after-school learning experiences for middle school students. Our program includes homework assistance, engaging enrichment activities, and supervision of students in a dynamic environment. Educators are responsible for leading classes of 20-30 students and facilitating holiday camps during school closures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the lead educator to design and implement interactive, hands-on lessons that align with our thematic curriculum.
  • Prepare and submit lesson plans for review and approval.
  • Assist in planning educational field trips and provide supervision during these events.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and training sessions.
  • Utilize innovative teaching methods to foster literacy, social-emotional growth, and STEAM skills.
  • Help organize culminating events that highlight student learning and creativity.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and families as needed.
  • Ensure effective supervision of students during activities and transitions.
  • Monitor the authorized pick-up of students by guardians.
  • Support the lead educator in preparing materials and activities for daily sessions.
  • Participate in agency-wide meetings and collaborative groups.
  • Assist in the development of funding proposals as necessary.
  • Perform additional tasks as required.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma is mandatory; some college education is preferred.
  • Experience in youth engagement within after-school or summer camp settings is essential.
  • Flexibility to cover various after-school programs as needed.
  • A genuine passion for working with children and the ability to pass required background checks.
  • Prior experience as an assistant educator is advantageous.
  • Background in STEAM, arts, or sports coaching is a plus.
  • Proficiency in digital tools, video conferencing, and email communication is preferred.
