Role: Educator - After School - Academy for Young Writers
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Reporting To: Program Director
Employment Type: Part-Time - Hourly
Compensation: $25 per hour
Position Summary: The Education and Youth Development programs aim to provide enriching after-school learning experiences for middle school students. The role involves delivering homework assistance, engaging enrichment activities, and overseeing a classroom of 20-30 students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement interactive, multi-sensory lessons that align with a thematic curriculum.
- Prepare and submit lesson plans for review and approval.
- Organize and supervise field trips that complement the curriculum.
- Engage in professional development and training sessions.
- Utilize innovative teaching methods to foster literacy, social-emotional growth, and creativity.
- Collaborate with staff to create presentations that highlight student learning and creativity.
- Communicate effectively with parents and families as needed.
- Ensure effective supervision of students during activities and transitions.
- Monitor the authorized pick-up of students by guardians.
- Guide and support assistant teachers.
- Participate in agency-wide meetings and initiatives.
- Assist in the development of funding proposals as necessary.
- Perform additional tasks as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree is required; a degree in Education is preferred.
- Experience working with children and youth is essential.
- Flexibility to cover various after-school programs as needed.
- Proficiency in technology, including applications and video conferencing.
- Successful completion of background checks as mandated.
- Current or former teaching certification is advantageous.
- Experience in visual or performing arts, or sports coaching is a plus.
