Position Overview

Role: Educator - After School - Academy for Young Writers

Location: Brooklyn, NY

Reporting To: Program Director

Employment Type: Part-Time - Hourly

Compensation: $25 per hour

Position Summary: The Education and Youth Development programs aim to provide enriching after-school learning experiences for middle school students. The role involves delivering homework assistance, engaging enrichment activities, and overseeing a classroom of 20-30 students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement interactive, multi-sensory lessons that align with a thematic curriculum.
  • Prepare and submit lesson plans for review and approval.
  • Organize and supervise field trips that complement the curriculum.
  • Engage in professional development and training sessions.
  • Utilize innovative teaching methods to foster literacy, social-emotional growth, and creativity.
  • Collaborate with staff to create presentations that highlight student learning and creativity.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and families as needed.
  • Ensure effective supervision of students during activities and transitions.
  • Monitor the authorized pick-up of students by guardians.
  • Guide and support assistant teachers.
  • Participate in agency-wide meetings and initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of funding proposals as necessary.
  • Perform additional tasks as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required; a degree in Education is preferred.
  • Experience working with children and youth is essential.
  • Flexibility to cover various after-school programs as needed.
  • Proficiency in technology, including applications and video conferencing.
  • Successful completion of background checks as mandated.
  • Current or former teaching certification is advantageous.
  • Experience in visual or performing arts, or sports coaching is a plus.
