Position Summary: We are seeking a Real Time Trader to become a vital part of our team in the United States. This position will primarily operate from our Austin office and will require shift work, including weekends and overnight hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maximize value capture for clients' energy storage, wind, and solar assets by optimizing trading positions in day-ahead and real-time electricity markets, focusing on strategies for Ancillary Services and DART trading.
  • Conduct market analysis to evaluate near-term supply and demand trends, competitor tactics, and transmission limitations to identify opportunities for enhancing gross margins.
  • Identify and define necessary internal tools and operational processes to support scalability and success.
  • Assist with asset onboarding and manage ISO-related monitoring and documentation as required.
  • Evaluate real-time market opportunities and risks while managing client assets and ensuring compliance as part of the shift desk rotation.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Experience or a strong interest in short-term power trading, including managing the dispatch of physical assets and executing trading strategies in both physical and financial markets.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and adherence to strict operational protocols, including ERCOT business practices and nodal protocols, as well as NERC operating guidelines.
  • Ability to articulate complex issues clearly and prioritize tasks effectively in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build trust with clients, vendors, and colleagues.
  • Sound judgment in high-stakes situations, with the ability to justify decisions made.
  • Willingness to participate in shift desk rotations, including weekends and overnight shifts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the operations, regulations, infrastructure, and key players in the ERCOT market.
  • Direct experience managing battery storage, wind, or solar technologies in competitive energy markets.
  • Understanding of the factors influencing real-time power and ancillary services market prices and the opportunities they present for asset owners.
  • Previous experience with regulatory/System Operator engagement or establishing a trading and operations desk in markets such as ERCOT, CAISO, or MISO.
  • Experience in risk management or post-trade analytics.
  • Proficiency in Python (e.g., Pandas) and experience with relational database querying (e.g., SQL).
  • Comfort in presenting to clients and stakeholders.
