Overview:

The Volunteer Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing student and community volunteer initiatives within a healthcare setting. This role involves consulting with management and staff to identify the organization's requirements for various volunteer services. The coordinator will also strategize, design, and execute volunteer recruitment efforts.

Key Responsibilities:


• Uphold the standards of the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

• Manage the daily functions of the department, including staff and volunteer coordination.

• Recruit, evaluate, orient, and assign volunteers to appropriate roles.

• Collaborate in the planning and development of programs aimed at enhancing both customer and volunteer satisfaction while complementing hospital services.

• Supervise the operations of the Information Desk, Gift Shop, and Waiting Areas.

• Assess and prioritize volunteer requests, delegating assignments to various departments.

• Create and maintain job descriptions for both staff and volunteers, ensuring compliance with established guidelines.

• Act as a mediator between departments and volunteers to address any issues that arise.

• Serve as the junior volunteer coordinator when necessary.

• Possess a thorough understanding of volunteer programs and supervision to effectively lead assigned staff and volunteers, as well as to develop and implement volunteer initiatives.

• Demonstrate the ability to evaluate and prioritize departmental requests, assigning volunteers accordingly.

• Utilize analytical skills to develop and oversee job responsibilities for staff and volunteers, formulate policies and procedures for volunteer programs, and manage the budget.

• Exhibit strong interpersonal skills essential for training and supervising staff and volunteers, while engaging with all hospital departments.

• Maintain the ability to interact appropriately with all staff, volunteers, patients, and visitors, particularly in challenging situations.

• Possess excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

• Manage multiple tasks effectively while prioritizing responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 2 to 3 years of experience in a volunteer coordination role is required.
  • Experience in the healthcare sector is highly preferred.
  • Volunteer certification is advantageous.
