Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Welding Instructor / Program Director is accountable for overseeing the technical and vocational curriculum within the welding program at Galveston College. This role involves direct reporting to the Division Director of Business, Science and Technology, while also collaborating with the Dean and Vice President of Instruction. The individual in this position is tasked with ensuring the integrity, quality, and effectiveness of the educational offerings, as well as engaging in recruitment and student advisement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in budget planning and monitor financial allocations;
  • Prepare and submit departmental purchase requests with necessary documentation;
  • Collaborate on schedule creation and resolve conflicts with other academic departments;
  • Support the Division Director in faculty evaluations as needed;
  • Mentor and oversee adjunct faculty within the department;
  • Conduct evaluations of adjunct faculty in accordance with institutional policies;
  • Ensure adherence to the final exam schedule;
  • Submit final grades to the Registrar's office punctually;
  • Request textbooks following institutional guidelines;
  • Work closely with faculty to develop and refine course offerings and curricula;
  • Implement strategies for student recruitment and retention;
  • Engage with prospective students and respond to inquiries;
  • Organize and lead departmental advisory meetings, providing minutes and membership lists to the Dean;
  • Participate in program reviews and assessments;
  • Ensure accurate reporting of faculty workloads;
  • Manage inventory and security of program facilities and equipment;
  • Deliver instruction in assigned classes and fulfill all instructor responsibilities;
  • Provide academic advising to students as appropriate;
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information related to students and staff;
  • Contribute to a safe educational environment by participating in safety drills and training;
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field with a minimum of three years of welding experience;
    OR an Associate degree in Welding Technology or a related field with at least five years of welding experience;
  • Valid certifications in relevant areas;
  • Extensive experience in developing and managing welding technologies;
  • Strong decision-making skills in a technical production setting;
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team;
  • Preferred prior teaching experience;
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills to effectively support students in achieving their educational objectives;
  • Knowledge of essential welding tasks, equipment evaluation, and production processes.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily in a controlled environment with minimal health hazards, though some situations may be stressful;
  • Physical activities may include climbing, lifting, and other exertions requiring full body movement.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must pass a criminal background check prior to employment.
