Position Overview

Galveston College is dedicated to providing exceptional educational experiences, emphasizing the importance of high-quality instruction in the classroom. Faculty members are expected to uphold and demonstrate proficiency in various essential areas throughout their tenure at the institution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver instruction to students enrolled in the radiography program.
  • Coordinate clinical education alongside theoretical education as directed by the program leadership.
  • Assess and ensure the quality of clinical experiences for students in their respective concentrations.
  • Provide clinical training and document evaluations of student performance, guiding them towards clinical proficiency.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with clinical facilities for educational placements and externships.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a radiography program accredited by JRCERT.
  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and TMB.
  • Willingness to travel to various clinical sites.
  • Competency in computer usage.
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Expertise in radiographic image assessment, patient care, radiographic techniques, supervision, instruction, and evaluation.

Position Summary:

  • Teach students in the radiography program.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Support the objectives and philosophy of the Galveston College Radiography Program.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Develop and deliver curriculum for multiple radiography courses.
  • Guide students in executing prescribed radiologic procedures.
  • Conduct evaluations of student progress in alignment with program goals.
  • Ensure adequate supervision and support for all students during clinical practice.
  • Promote safe patient care practices while adhering to the ALARA principle.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of clinical performance, counseling, and attendance.
  • Engage in Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Foster effective communication with program faculty and clinical sites.

Familiarity Required:

  • Clinical routines and procedures of program affiliates.
  • The program's clinical evaluation framework.
  • Policies and regulations governing the Galveston College Radiography Program.

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Monitor attendance and punctuality, completing necessary documentation.
  • Provide assistance to students as required.
  • Ensure students adhere to uniform and identification standards.
  • Verify that students meet clinical expectations.

Professional Guidance:

Students learn through both observation and practice. Mastery of technical skills is only part of the role of a Radiologic Technologist. Students must also excel in:

  • Building relationships with peers, staff, and medical professionals.
  • Performing effectively under pressure.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to advancing the profession.
  • Maintaining a positive attitude towards patient care.
  • Delivering high-quality patient services.

To foster student competence in these areas, the Clinical Preceptor/Instructor must serve as a role model and continuously seek improvement through communication with students, technologists, and administration.

Disciplinary Procedures:

  1. Issuing a Written Reprimand for repeated infractions, requiring signatures from both the clinical instructor and the student.
  2. Sending a student home for unresolved issues at the clinical site, with immediate notification to the Clinical Coordinator.
  3. Removing a student from the clinical site, necessitating agreement from both the Program Director and the clinical site, with thorough documentation prior to removal.
