Chemist Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Chemist to join our Technology team at Chemours. This role will report directly to the Manufacturing Technology Manager at our New Johnsonville, TN location.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support to the manufacturing area, including daily process/quality monitoring and interacting with operators and lab technicians.
  • Effective troubleshooting, problem solving and root cause identification of potential chemistry related process issues.
  • Lead or support plant trials for new product offerings or existing product improvements.
  • Provide technology improvements associated with the TiO2 production process.
  • Work with site personnel, our global technical service, and R&D organization to develop new technologies and offerings, and to support existing products.
  • Serve as product quality guardian for Titanium Technologies product offerings.
  • Expert of the process chemistry.
  • Work on continuous improvement activities to improve area performance.
  • Initiate Management of Change (MOC's) to the process to improve quality, and/or cost of the production unit.
Requirements:
  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or Material Sciences (or related field).
  • 3+ years in a laboratory environment in Quality Control or Research and Development.
  • Strong background in chemistry and characterization techniques associated with metal oxides or other similar advanced materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge to diagnose, troubleshoot, and solve problems.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple, complex, time-sensitive projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of colloid chemistry and particle-particle interaction theories.
  • Work experience in industrial R&D or manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of any of the following: data analytics and statistics using tools like 6-Sigma, Design of Experiments, Minitab, SEEQ, Power BI, MS Excel, statistical process control for quality management and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Excellent oral, and written communication skills in English.
