About the Green Jobs Youth Corps Initiative


In collaboration with the Environment, Energy & Open Space Cabinet (EEOS), OWD is launching a new green jobs training initiative focused on providing opportunities for youth, disconnected young adults, and returning citizens.


This learn-and-earn program, inspired by the PowerCorpsPHL initiative from Philadelphia, will engage young adults in transformative public service and workforce training in the green sector.

Participants will acquire essential 21st-century workforce skills, including teamwork, leadership, conflict resolution, time management, and networking through a blend of knowledge, industry training, and community service.

Alumni and participants will receive tailored support as they pursue their educational and career aspirations.

Role Summary

A Team Supervisor is tasked with the daily leadership, guidance, support, and oversight of approximately ten Corps members.

The Team Supervisor acts as a mentor, motivator, leader, and role model, ensuring the crew's overall service performance and safety.

The Team Supervisor serves as the primary liaison and reports to the Program Director and Project Manager(s).

Key Responsibilities:

Provide leadership and oversight to corps members, including: Treating members equitably and with a cohesive approach, aligning leadership with program goals and staff expectations.

Facilitating crew activities, discussions, and reflections that foster crew and program values, respectful interactions, and teamwork.

Empowering corps members throughout their tenure, supporting their social and emotional development and workforce readiness through both formal and informal learning opportunities.

Holding corps members accountable to the standards outlined in the Member Handbook.

Supporting corps member completion by communicating benchmarks and off-site service opportunities.

Collaborating with Support Services staff to address barriers to service completion, including physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Working with Workforce Development staff to assist corps members in their post-service and workforce development plans.


Provide on-site project management and safety compliance, including: Coordinating with the Program Management Team to execute daily and/or weekly projects and work orders, including tool, equipment, and material management and inventories.


Assigning, reviewing, and monitoring on-site schedules, tasks, and responsibilities for corps members; serving alongside corps members as a model and active leader; ensuring timely service start and end.


Creating and maintaining a safe service and project environment; consistently monitoring all aspects of corps member safety, including identifying and eliminating hazards, enforcing the use of personal protective equipment, and recommending additional training as needed.

Ensuring compliance with all state laws, OSHA regulations, and program safety protocols.

Reporting issues, schedule changes, and other concerns to the Project Manager and/or relevant personnel.


Initiating communication for all service-related injuries and accidents as mandated by law; completing necessary documentation in accordance with the worker's compensation process.


Administrative Support Responsibilities:
Ensuring accurate and timely completion of timesheets; monitoring performance benchmarks.

Participating in the corps member selection process.

Leading and participating in corps member training sessions.

Sharing project highlights and images with appropriate staff for inclusion in press releases, news articles, and/or videos.

Attending program, staff, and community meetings and outreach events as required.

Responding to inquiries from staff, City agencies, and the public in a timely and professional manner.

Performing additional duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:


A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with Opportunity Youth or other system-involved populations OR a bachelor's degree in human services, social work, education, environmental science, or a related field.

Experience in vocational education and/or youth workforce development is highly preferred.


Significant experience leading and managing youth aged 18-26 who have been involved in the criminal justice system and/or face challenges consistent with opportunity youth.

Ability to inspire and guide disconnected and disengaged youth while effectively managing conflicts.

Knowledge of sustainability, landscaping, horticulture, and/or stormwater management principles.

Strong work ethic with a willingness to work outdoors in challenging conditions.

Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, or rain.

Capability to lift, bend, and carry up to 50 lbs.

Experience with service-learning, AmeriCorps programming, and member management is preferred.

Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and organizational skills.

Ability to adapt plans, remain flexible on short notice, and take initiative to solve problems.

First Aid/CPR Certification is preferred.

A valid driver's license and the ability to operate a passenger van are preferred.
