Pastry Cook Job Summary

Hutong - Miami, a renowned culinary destination, is seeking a skilled Pastry Cook to join our team. As a Pastry Cook, you will play a vital role in assisting our Executive Pastry Chef in the daily kitchen operation, ensuring the highest quality of pastries and baked goods.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and manage the pastry section of the kitchen, collaborating with other Cooks to achieve exceptional results.
  • Prepare a diverse range of baked goods, adhering to pre-established recipes and guidelines.
  • Decorate and present pastries and baked goods in an aesthetically pleasing manner, showcasing your creativity and attention to detail.
  • Monitor and order ingredients, supplies, and equipment, ensuring seamless kitchen operations.
  • Meet with customers to discuss custom-made desserts or baked goods for special occasions, providing exceptional customer service.
  • Ensure the bakery section of the kitchen adheres to health and safety regulations, maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Identify staffing needs, assist in recruiting new personnel, and train them to meet the demands of our fast-paced kitchen.
  • Develop new seasonal recipes and menus, staying up-to-date with the latest culinary trends and techniques.
  • Bake pastry items according to pre-established recipes, adhering to portion standards and presentation guidelines.
  • Decorate pastries in a consistent style, showcasing your creativity and attention to detail.
  • Follow plating and display standards, ensuring visually appealing presentations.
  • Maintain inventory of prepped ingredients, properly labeling and storing them to prevent waste and ensure efficiency.
  • Keep the kitchen area and tools clean, adhering to health and safety regulations.
  • Consult with the Executive Pastry Chef and other Cooks to plan menus, ensuring a cohesive and exceptional dining experience.
  • Execute pastry orders for private events, accommodating special requests and exceeding customer expectations.
  • Demonstrate skill in baking pastries, desserts, cakes, cookies, sweets, and pies, showcasing your expertise and creativity.
  • Create enticing confectionery decorations and pastry fillings, staying up-to-date with new pastry baking techniques.
  • Apply classic pastry baking techniques when preparing traditional pastries, maintaining the highest standards of quality.
  • Add novel and creative pastry items to the existing selection, innovating and pushing the boundaries of culinary excellence.
  • Hire, train, and supervise pastry section staff, adhering to food industry regulations and maintaining a positive work environment.
  • Monitor equipment and ensure all specialized pastry baking tools are in working order, maintaining a well-maintained and efficient kitchen.
  • Maintain the good running order of specialized pastry baking equipment, ensuring seamless kitchen operations.
  • Prepare work schedules and keep pastry section records, maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Associate degree in baking and pastry arts, or similar preferred.
  • Completion of a culinary school program or apprenticeship preferred.
  • Pastry-making experience.
  • The ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • 2 or more years of experience as a pastry cook, baker, or similar.
  • Creativity to design new and unique menu items to attract customers.
  • Knowledge of how baking ingredients work together and how they can be used in creative ways.
  • Time management skills to deliver orders on schedule and avoid wasting food.
  • Physical strength and stamina to spend long hours standing and performing repetitive motions.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, as hours for a Pastry Cook may vary and include weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Advanced knowledge of traditional pastry baking techniques.
  • Creative ability in designing, decorating, and filling confectionery.
  • Ability to coordinate with other Cooks.
  • In-depth knowledge of food industry regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
