About the Role

This position plays a vital role in supporting the food service operations at Lowell General Hospital. As a Dietary Assistant - Food Service, you will work under general supervision to assist with various aspects of food preparation, delivery, and sanitation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate and updated diet order information to ensure patients receive appropriate meals and nourishments.
  • Elicit patient information regarding food preferences, intolerances, likes, and dislikes, and alert the Clinical Dietitian to any actual or potential nutritional problems.
  • Assist patients with menu selection and write and correct regular and as assigned modified diets for patients.
  • Deliver trays to patients and pick up trays from patients.
  • Follow all precautions on patient units by donning and doffing PPE appropriately and performing hand hygiene according to standards.
  • Stock nursing unit pantries with nourishments and dietary supplies, utilizing the first-in, first-out system.
Requirements
  • Ability to read, write, and understand written instructions.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, patient care team, and employees.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic diets.
  • Knowledge of sterile food handling techniques.
  • Ability to operate simple mechanical devices such as coffee urns, dish machines, slicers, and trash compactors.
  • Ability to use a knife for slicing, cutting, and dicing.
