Overview
This position is within a specialized oncology unit dedicated to providing care for adult patients facing various cancer diagnoses. The unit supports individuals who are newly diagnosed, undergoing surgical procedures, or receiving chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Additionally, it serves a significant portion of the community diagnosed with Sickle Cell disease.

Position Details

LOCATION: Lancaster, PA

HOURS: Part-time, 24 hours weekly, primarily night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, incorporating both 8 and 12-hour shifts as required, with a rotation every third weekend and designated holidays.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Candidates must demonstrate the capability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to fulfill the following responsibilities:
  • Integrate the mission, vision, and values of Lancaster General Health into patient care planning.
  • Act as both an independent and collaborative member of the healthcare team as outlined in the unit's care provision plan.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive aspects. Monitor progress towards outcomes and adjust care plans based on observed trends and changes.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify diagnoses or issues, creating culturally and ethically sensitive care plans tailored to age-specific needs.
  • Deliver care knowledgeably and coordinate treatment across various disciplines and caregivers.
  • Provide leadership to team members by clearly communicating care standards and fostering a supportive environment.
  • Exhibit a commitment to values of privacy, quality, respect, service, and teamwork.
  • Delegate and supervise the work of other staff, ensuring the care plan is executed effectively and continuity of care is maintained.
  • Educate patients on healthy practices and treatment options.
  • Continuously enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices, utilizing technology appropriately.
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice when planning and delivering nursing services.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The following tasks are secondary to the primary responsibilities listed above:
  • Manage rapidly changing situations by following established protocols and coordinating with appropriate health team members.
  • Engage in process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing nurse-patient relationships and reducing redundancies.
  • Complete mandatory training that includes age-specific needs and interpersonal skills as defined by the unit's care provision plan.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to evidence-based practices and promptly reporting safety issues.
  • Demonstrate pride in work through positive interactions with colleagues, patients, and stakeholders.
  • Pursue professional development opportunities to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to peers and subordinates to improve the professional practice environment.
  • Participate in performance evaluations for team members, addressing any issues or disputes as the first level of supervision.
  • Fulfill on-call responsibilities as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM REQUIRED:
  • Current RN Licensure from the PA Board of Nursing or a Temporary Practice Permit.
  • Newly graduated registered nurses must take the NCLEX within 60 days of starting their role.
  • All Clinical Nurse 1 RNs must successfully complete the Nurse Residency Program.
  • CPR Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be a healthcare provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs.
PREFERRED:
  • As outlined in the unit's care provision plan.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred; for Magnet designated RN positions, a BSN or higher is required.
