Overview
This position is within a specialized oncology unit dedicated to the care of adult patients diagnosed with various forms of cancer. The unit provides comprehensive support for patients undergoing surgical procedures, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, while also serving a significant portion of the community with Sickle Cell disease.

Position Details

LOCATION: Lancaster, PA

HOURS: Part-time role requiring 24 hours per week, primarily during night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with a mix of 8 and 12-hour shifts to accommodate unit needs, including every third weekend and designated holidays.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Candidates must possess the capability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to fulfill the following duties:
  • Integrate the mission, vision, and values of Lancaster General Health into patient care planning.
  • Act as both an independent and collaborative member of the healthcare team as outlined in the unit's care provision plan.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive aspects. Monitor progress towards care objectives and adjust care plans as necessary.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify diagnoses or issues and develop culturally and ethically sensitive care plans.
  • Deliver care knowledgeably and coordinate treatment across various disciplines and caregivers.
  • Provide leadership to team members by clearly communicating care standards and supporting their contributions.
  • Commit to the values of privacy, quality, respect, service, and teamwork.
  • Delegate and supervise the activities of other staff members to ensure continuity of care and achievement of established outcomes.
  • Educate patients on healthy practices and treatment options.
  • Continuously improve the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices, utilizing technology as appropriate.
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice when planning and delivering nursing services.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The following tasks are secondary to the primary responsibilities:
  • Manage dynamic situations by following established protocols and coordinating with appropriate health team members.
  • Engage in process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing nurse-patient relationships and operational efficiency.
  • Complete mandatory training, including age-specific needs and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to evidence-based practices and promptly reporting safety issues.
  • Exhibit pride in work through positive interactions with colleagues and patients.
  • Pursue opportunities for professional development and clinical skill enhancement.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to peers to foster a supportive learning environment.
  • Participate in performance evaluations and address any employee-related issues as needed.
  • Fulfill on-call responsibilities as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM REQUIRED:
  • Current RN Licensure from the PA Board of Nursing or a Temporary Practice Permit.
  • New graduates must take the NCLEX within 60 days of starting in the RN role.
  • All Clinical Nurse 1 RNs must complete the Nurse Residency Program successfully.
  • CPR Certification from the American Heart Association required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be a healthcare provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other health insurance programs.
PREFERRED:
  • As outlined in the unit's care provision plan.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred, with specific requirements for Magnet designated positions.
