Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is on the lookout for a skilled Registered Nurse to enhance the Surgical Oncology Clinic at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute.

Our nursing professionals primarily focus on breast surgery patients, delivering essential patient education, triage, and symptom management. Additionally, they may extend their expertise to support other specialties, including gynecology.

LOCATION: Lancaster, PA

HOURS: Full Time (40 hours per week), Monday to Friday (8am-4:30pm).

SIGN ON BONUS: Up to $15,000, prorated based on FTE with a two-year commitment. Eligibility criteria apply, including a minimum of 15 months of RN experience for external applicants.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague is an RN who plays a pivotal role within the healthcare team, consistently demonstrating safe practices aligned with the standards set by the American Nurses Association. This role requires the nurse to possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to meet the standards for competent professional nursing practice.

The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague independently delivers patient care by applying the nursing process and is accountable for the nursing care of assigned patients, who may range from infants to the elderly.

The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague is expected to demonstrate competencies in Continuous Quality Improvement, Evidence-Based Practice and Research, Leadership, Person and Family-Centered Care, Professionalism, Safety, Technology/Informatics, and Teamwork.

Collaboration with the interprofessional healthcare team is essential to facilitate care coordination across the continuum. The nurse focuses on expanding their knowledge and skills to provide individualized care that considers the physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age-appropriate needs of assigned patients.

The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague actively seeks feedback to assume leadership roles and contributes to improving clinical practices. The nurse's practice is aligned with the organizational vision, mission, and goals, adhering to all regulations and standards from regulatory and accrediting bodies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified candidates must possess the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
  • Integrate the Lancaster General Health mission, vision, and values into patient care planning.
  • Function as both an independent and interdependent member of the healthcare team as defined in the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
  • Conduct patient assessments focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive functions. Evaluate progress toward outcomes and adapt care plans based on recognized trends and changes.
  • Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses or issues and formulate culturally and ethically sensitive care plans.
  • Implement care knowledgeably and coordinate patient care across various disciplines and caregivers.
  • Provide leadership to team members by effectively communicating expected standards of care and supporting their contributions.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to values of privacy, quality, respect, service, and teamwork.
  • Assign, delegate, and supervise other staff, ensuring continuity of care and achievement of established outcomes.
  • Educate patients on healthy practices and treatment options.
  • Continuously enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices, utilizing technology as appropriate.
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in planning and delivering nursing services.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary responsibilities:
  • Manage rapidly changing situations by following established protocols and coordinating with appropriate health team members.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing continuity in nurse-patient relationships and increasing efficiency.
  • Complete mandatory education and training, including age-specific needs and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to evidence-based practice policies and reporting safety variances.
  • Exhibit pride in work through daily interactions with staff, coworkers, and patients.
  • Engage in formal and independent learning activities to develop clinical and professional skills.
  • Provide supervision and mentorship to peers and subordinates to enhance the professional practice environment.
  • Participate in the employee performance process for peers and subordinates, addressing issues as the first level of supervision.
  • Fulfill on-call responsibilities as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current RN licensure issued by the PA Board of Nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher nursing degree is required.
  • Completion of the Nurse Residency Program or over 15 months of nursing practice.
  • CPR Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be a healthcare provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • As outlined in the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
