Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is in search of a skilled Registered Nurse to become a vital part of the Surgical Oncology Clinic at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute.

Our nursing professionals primarily engage with patients undergoing breast surgery, offering essential patient education, triage, and management of symptoms. Additionally, they may extend their expertise to support other specialties, including gynecology.

LOCATION:
Lancaster, PA

HOURS: Full Time (40 hours per week), Monday to Friday (8am-4:30pm).

SIGN ON BONUS: Up to $15,000, prorated based on FTE with a two-year commitment. Eligibility criteria apply, including a minimum of 15 months of RN experience for external applicants.

ROLE SUMMARY: The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague is an RN who acts as a full partner within the healthcare team, consistently demonstrating safe practice aligned with the standards set by the American Nurses Association. This role encompasses responsibility and accountability for patient care, ensuring adherence to the professional practice model.

The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to meet the standards for competent nursing practice. They independently deliver patient care by applying the nursing process and accepting accountability for the care of assigned patients, who may range from infants to the elderly.

The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague actively engages in the domains of Continuous Quality Improvement, Evidence-Based Practice, Leadership, Person and Family-Centered Care, Professionalism, Safety, Technology/Informatics, and Teamwork.

Collaboration with the interprofessional healthcare team is essential to facilitate coordinated care across the continuum. The nurse focuses on enhancing their knowledge and skills to provide individualized care that considers the physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age-appropriate needs of patients.

The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague seeks constructive feedback while assuming leadership roles and contributes to improving clinical practices. They demonstrate how nursing practice aligns with the organizational vision, mission, and goals, adhering to all regulatory and accrediting standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Qualified candidates must possess the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
  • Integrate the mission, vision, and values of Lancaster General Health into patient care planning.
  • Function as both an independent and interdependent member of the healthcare team as defined in the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive functions. Evaluate progress toward outcomes and adapt care plans based on recognized trends and changes.
  • Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses or issues and formulate culturally and ethically sensitive care plans.
  • Implement care knowledgeably and coordinate patient care across various disciplines and caregivers.
  • Provide leadership by effectively communicating expected standards of care and supporting team members.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to values of privacy, quality, respect, service, and teamwork.
  • Assign, delegate, and supervise other staff, ensuring continuity of care and achievement of established outcomes.
  • Educate patients on healthy practices and treatment options.
  • Continuously enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices, utilizing technology appropriately.
  • Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in nursing service delivery.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are secondary to the primary responsibilities:
  • Manage rapidly changing situations by following established protocols and coordinating with appropriate health team members.
  • Engage in process improvement activities aimed at enhancing continuity in nurse-patient relationships and minimizing redundancies.
  • Complete mandatory education and training, including age-specific needs and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to evidence-based practice policies and reporting safety variances.
  • Exhibit pride in work through positive interactions with staff, coworkers, and patients.
  • Seek opportunities for formal and independent learning to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills.
  • Provide supervision and mentorship to peers and subordinates to enhance the professional practice environment.
  • Participate in performance evaluations for peers and subordinates, addressing any issues as the first level of supervision.
  • Fulfill on-call responsibilities as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current RN licensure issued by the PA Board of Nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher nursing degree is required. For Magnet designated RN positions, a BSN or higher degree is required for incumbents based on previously established parameters or within two years of placement for those who started after a specified date.
  • Completion of the Nurse Residency Program or more than 15 months of practice.
  • CPR Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support is required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be a healthcare provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • As outlined in the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
