Job Summary
The YMCA is in search of a compassionate individual for the role of Behavioral Support Specialist. In this position, you will assist participants and their families primarily within the YMCA Behavioral Rehabilitative Services (BRS) Program. Participants in this program have often been engaged with the child welfare system and may be living with foster parents, relatives, or their biological parents. The Behavioral Support Specialist collaborates closely with treatment team members to provide clinical assistance to participants and their families. You will also extend support to participants and families in various settings, including schools, homes, and community environments. Additionally, you may supervise visitations for participants in traditional foster care.
This role is situated within the Social Impact Center Y, the social services division of the YMCA of Greater Seattle. The mission of the Social Impact Center Y is to empower young individuals to create safe, successful, and fulfilling lives. Annually, we serve thousands of children, youth, young adults, and families across the region with programs designed to enhance their potential through strategies that include reducing risk factors, navigating systems for successful life transitions, ensuring stability and wellness during crises, and building competencies and social capital. Our programs encompass housing, behavioral health, foster care licensing, violence prevention, education, and employment, with many of the young people we assist having prior involvement in the foster care, criminal justice, or homelessness systems.

Responsibilities
- Oversee participants during social and recreational activities while providing respite for caregivers.
- Design and implement life skills and coping strategies curricula for participants.
- Offer behavior management support in home, school, and community settings.
- Supervise visitations with parents and/or siblings.
- Assist in identifying and developing participants' strengths and interests, facilitating enrollment in extracurricular activities.
- Work therapeutically with participants and their caregivers on service plan objectives.
- Provide direct support to participants during emergencies and crises.
- Ensure timely and safe transportation for participants to and from scheduled visitations, appointments, and activities.
- Document all critical incidents in accordance with YMCA policies.
- Adhere to YMCA program rules and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent with 2 years of relevant experience working with children and youth, or an Associate's degree with 1 year of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 6 months of relevant experience.
- Washington State Agency Affiliated Counselor Certification is required.
- Possess the skills to effectively meet the unique needs of participants in child welfare care.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
- Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management software.
- Experience in data tracking and report summarization.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with attention to detail.
- Current first aid, CPR, and HIV/AIDS training certification.
- TB test by the Mantoux method.
- Knowledge of child safety and behavior management training authorized by DCYF.
- Effective problem-solving abilities and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Understanding of basic child development and milestones.
Preferred Attributes and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or a related field, or an Associate's degree with relevant experience.
- Experience working with diverse populations and the ability to communicate in multiple languages is a plus.
- Background in trauma-informed care and experience with children facing significant behavioral health challenges.
Authorized Driver Requirement
This role requires transporting clients as an authorized driver for the YMCA. To qualify, you must be 21+, possess a valid driver's license for at least three years, and maintain a driving record that meets YMCA standards.
