Position Overview
As a Senior Nuclear Systems Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and guiding the strategic planning, direction, and execution of collaborative technical initiatives between the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Navy (DON) within the naval reactor domain.

Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Providing expert advice to senior management on policy and technical matters related to nuclear propulsion systems.
2. Engaging with senior shipyard management to address policy implications and technical requirements associated with nuclear-powered vessels.
3. Offering technical guidance to resident experts from prime contractors stationed at the shipyard.
4. Leading a team of engineering and administrative professionals to assess contractor performance in executing DOE and DON technical programs.
5. Evaluating personnel management practices to ensure optimal resource utilization.
6. Implementing independent technical oversight programs to ensure compliance with established technical directives.
7. Assessing contractor adherence to government regulations concerning security and safety protocols.
8. Supervising office staff and maintaining direct oversight of a large contractor workforce.

Requirements
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following conditions:
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Participation in the e-Verify program is mandatory.
- Registration for Selective Service is required for males born after December 31, 1959.
- Candidates must obtain and maintain a DOE Q level security clearance.
- Compliance with the DOE Drug-Free Workplace Order is essential, including pre-employment drug testing.

Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate specialized experience equivalent to the GS-15 level in the Federal service, including:
- In-depth knowledge of advanced nuclear engineering principles.
- Expertise in the application of nuclear propulsion technologies in the design, construction, and operation of naval reactor systems.
- Familiarity with nuclear safety regulations and practices to ensure operational safety.
- Extensive experience with shipyard reactor testing and operational procedures.

Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field is required, along with relevant professional experience.
