Physical Education Teacher and Recreational Coordinator for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students

Job Summary:

The GeorgiaGov is seeking a qualified Physical Education Teacher and Recreational Coordinator to serve students who are deaf and hard-of-hearing. This is a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students and contribute to the development of their physical and recreational skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize and lead physical education classes that promote age-appropriate physical activity among children and young adults from kindergarten to high school.
  • Create a safe and inclusive learning environment that caters to the needs of students with different levels of physical and cognitive ability.
  • Develop and implement curricula that teach motor skills, physical development, and health education.
  • Coordinate and oversee the school's afterschool program, including tutoring and sports activities.
  • Recruit and train program staff, prepare schedules, and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with safety rules, regulations, and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Georgia Teacher Certification in Health and Physical Education or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience teaching deaf or hard-of-hearing students.
  • Experience managing an after-school program or similar program.
  • Knowledge of various school-level athletic and sporting games, rules, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at 3+ or above.

Working Conditions:

This position involves flexible scheduling, including late afternoons and evenings, and occasional overnight travel. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively with students, families, and staff in a fast-paced environment.
