Physical Education Teacher and Recreational Coordinator

Job Summary:

The Atlanta Area School for the Deaf is seeking a qualified Physical Education Teacher and Recreational Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for developing and implementing physical education programs for students who are deaf and hard-of-hearing.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize and lead physical education classes for students of various ages and skill levels
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that promote physical activity, motor skills, and health education
  • Coordinate and oversee the school's afterschool program, including tutoring and sports activities
  • Recruit and train program staff, including tutors and coaches
  • Manage program schedules, assignments, and facilities
  • Ensure compliance with safety rules, regulations, and procedures
  • Communicate with stakeholders, including families, staff, and community members

Requirements:

  • Georgia Teacher Certification in Health and Physical Education or equivalent
  • Experience teaching deaf or hard-of-hearing students preferred
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and ability to communicate effectively with students and staff
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years of experience teaching deaf or hard-of-hearing students
  • Experience managing an after-school program or similar program
  • Knowledge of various school-level athletic and sporting games, rules, and regulations
