Senior Program Manager, Event Solutions Job ID:
| Amazon Web Services, Inc.

At Amazon Web Services (AWS), we empower our Solutions Architects (SAs) to engage with customers through interactive experiences that illuminate the benefits of AWS Services in a secure and controlled environment.

These engagements foster customer confidence in AWS Services, demonstrating how these solutions can address their business and technical challenges.

Our team is responsible for developing and managing the tools that facilitate these interactions, allowing SAs to concentrate on delivering impactful, high-quality experiences for our clients.

We are seeking a seasoned Program Manager (PM) to join our team, collaborating closely with our Product Manager and Software Development Managers. The PM will bridge the gap between engineering, product management, operations, and customer engagement.

Your role will involve working directly with customers to gain insights into their usage of our products, crafting prescriptive guidance and best practices, and identifying areas for improvement and problem-solving.

You will serve as a key advocate for the customer within the team, leveraging both quantitative data and qualitative feedback to foster a shared understanding and drive prioritization.

Collaboration with various teams will be essential, including AWS Service teams, Event Marketing, Legal, Security, and other stakeholders. You will ensure our products align with new AWS service and feature launches, effectively supporting numerous sessions for thousands of customers at major AWS events.

Additionally, you will partner with engineering teams and leadership to identify optimization opportunities, enhancing efficiency through standardized and repeatable processes. Your expertise will guide teams in making informed architectural decisions, managing risks, and maintaining high-quality standards.

We are looking for someone who is analytical, resourceful, customer-centric, and a team player, with the ability to work autonomously under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a representative for our team in cross-functional collaborations.
  • Oversee dependencies, risks, and trade-offs across teams, balancing developer experience with time-to-market.
  • Lead engineering and integration decisions across multiple teams and organizations.
  • Establish metrics and indicators for business success and high-quality technical outcomes.
  • Regularly communicate with senior management regarding status updates, risks, and change management.
  • Proactively identify and resolve strategic challenges that may hinder the team's ability to achieve business objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement in software development practices and processes, preparing for future scaling.
  • Manage complexity: Navigate intricate business processes involving multiple units, regions, and product lines, identifying enhancements to improve customer experiences.
  • Deliver results: Design metrics, gather and analyze data to showcase impact, and present recommendations to senior management.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders to understand priorities and collaborate effectively.
A Day in the Life:

In a typical day, our PM may assist Solutions Architects with inquiries about event creation or management using our tools. They might identify patterns from customer feedback and update product documentation or work with the Product Manager to formulate a feature request.

They may collaborate with an AWS Service Team on the supportability of an upcoming product feature, providing guidance on how our products can facilitate new launches. Additionally, they might partner with the Event Marketing team to plan and execute a significant marketing event or participate in an engineering sprint, refining specific stories for delivery.

About the Team:

Our team is dedicated to building and managing the products that enable interactive customer engagements, including Workshops, Immersion Days, Activation Days, Builders' Sessions, Hackathons, and more. We ensure these events are of the highest quality, secure, and effective.

Our systems facilitate hundreds of events weekly for thousands of customers, helping them explore AWS Services in a safe and controlled manner. These engagements enhance customer confidence in AWS Services, illustrating how these solutions can effectively address their business and technical needs.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5+ years of experience in technical product or program management.
  • 3+ years of software development experience.
  • 3+ years of experience working directly with engineering teams.
  • Experience managing programs across cross-functional teams, developing processes, and coordinating release schedules.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5+ years of experience in project management disciplines, including scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and critical path management.
  • Experience defining KPIs/SLAs to drive multimillion-dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership.
  • Experience managing projects across cross-functional teams, establishing sustainable processes, and coordinating release schedules.
