Job Overview

CentraState Healthcare System is in search of a Cardiac Monitoring Specialist to deliver proficient technical support to licensed healthcare professionals by executing designated tasks and services essential for providing exceptional patient care. Adheres to established protocols, regulatory standards, and organizational policies. Responsible for monitoring cardiac patients within a patient-centered care framework that employs a collaborative approach.


Key Responsibilities

  • Delivers compassionate and respectful care tailored to the individual needs of patients.
  • Upholds the patient's right to make informed decisions regarding their medical treatment, including the option to cease treatment as permitted by law.
  • Exhibits the capability to gather and interpret information relevant to the age-specific needs of the patients served.
  • Completes necessary education related to life-span care as required.
  • Collects telemetry strips for each monitored patient at the start of each shift, mid-shift, and as needed, particularly when there are changes in rhythm, rate, or configuration.
  • Records telemetry strip measurements including PR interval, RR, QRS, and rhythm, ensuring to initial the documentation.
  • Files telemetry strips in the patient chart following verification and initialing by the nursing staff.
  • Reports any irregularities or deviations in heart rate or rhythm to the registered nurse.
  • Assists medical staff in identifying patient rhythms on monitors and accessing additional monitor functionalities.
  • Continuously observes patient locations and appropriately manages monitor tracings, ensuring alarm systems are operational and documented.
  • Prepares telemetry start packs for new admissions, including fresh batteries.
  • Manages the admission, transfer, and discontinuation of patients on the monitoring system.
  • Conducts equipment checks each shift, reporting any malfunctions to the Nurse Manager or Assistant Nurse Manager, and coordinates with biomedical technicians for repairs.
  • Ensures an adequate supply of monitoring materials is available for all shifts, including telemetry paper, batteries, electrodes, and lead wires.
  • Completes the Monitor Technician Checklist each shift in accordance with organizational requirements.
  • Maintains an accurate inventory of telemetry units at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Highlights the names of patients who have discontinued telemetry for the day.
  • Documents significant observations in the designated comments section.
  • Collects important tracings during critical situations as directed.
  • Maintains continuous observation of telemetry monitors.
  • Immediately informs nursing staff of any patient complaints or observed changes in condition, providing appropriate interventions as instructed.
  • Recognizes the importance of pain management for both patients and nursing staff.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one year recent experience in EKG interpretation for live telemetry monitoring is required.
  • Demonstrates strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with all members of the healthcare team.
