Title: Manager, Supplier Quality Assurance

Reports to: Senior Manager, Supplier Quality Assurance

Location: Holland, MI

LG Energy Solution Michigan Inc. (LGESMI) specializes in the development and production of large lithium-ion polymer batteries and packs for electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage applications. We are a leader in advanced EV battery technology.

Summary

The Supplier Quality Assurance Manager is tasked with overseeing supplier quality teams to fulfill engineering and production requirements efficiently and safely. This role is crucial for driving exceptional manufacturing performance by cultivating a skilled workforce through effective planning, coordination, and execution of manufacturing processes. The manager will oversee supplier quality related to the production of lithium-ion battery materials/products, ensuring that targeted volumes are produced with the highest quality standards and at the lowest possible cost.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure workplace cleanliness in line with 5S3R Standards:
    1. Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain
    2. Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container
  • Lead and promote quality enhancement initiatives both internally and externally.
  • Performance metrics for this role will be based on internal customer satisfaction and supplier performance indicators.
  • Support plant production by ensuring all components comply with engineering specifications.
  • Oversee advanced product quality planning and the successful introduction of components.
  • Establish, communicate, and meet internal requirements for Control Systems promptly and effectively.
  • Apply analytical skills to conduct root cause analysis and propose corrective actions.
  • Enhance Process Capability on critical quality characteristics through the application of statistical analysis techniques and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Collaborate proactively with suppliers to mitigate and resolve quality and performance issues during launch and ongoing operations.
  • Conduct comprehensive and timely Layered Process Audits in relevant areas.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree is required; an MBA or MS is preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years in Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, or Engineering within the manufacturing sector or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a large global manufacturing environment, preferably in the automotive sector.
  • Familiarity with problem-solving tools such as 8-D, Fishbone Diagrams, 5-Why's, and Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours to coordinate with headquarters and global sites.
  • Complete required documentation and audits as per the role's requirements.
  • Maintain 5S and 3R standards consistently.
  • Adhere to general and position-specific dress code standards.
  • Engage in and complete all necessary training requirements.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated expertise in APQP, inspection methodologies, root cause failure analysis, capability studies, statistical distributions, and assembly processes.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification is preferred; Green Belt certification is required.
  • Strong data analysis capabilities.
  • Proficient in Excel, including pivot tables and data plotting for analysis.
  • Experience in report writing using Microsoft Word and graphical analysis using Minitab is highly preferred.
  • Experience with Global Plant and Supplier Development is advantageous.
  • Proficient in MS Office and Minitab.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as necessary to support collaboration with headquarters and global sites.
