Onsite Regional Human Resources Specialist

Job Summary:
The Human Resources Specialist is dedicated to supporting our internal workforce with a customer service mindset.

This role will serve as a strategic partner across all employee levels, emphasizing the delivery of exceptional service and support in a rapidly expanding environment.

Reporting to the Regional Director of Human Resources, this position encompasses various HR functions throughout the employee life cycle, including onboarding, benefits administration, payroll processing, HRIS management, training, employee relations, conflict resolution, safety and workers' compensation programs, compliance with employment laws, and offboarding procedures.


Responsibilities:


Collaborates with location leaders to facilitate onboarding for new hires and recently acquired personnel, providing guidance during new-hire orientations and system integration.


Manages and supports benefits programs, ensuring effective communication, liaising with benefits providers, and processing enrollments and life-event modifications.

Handles payroll-related tasks, pay procedures, and assists with unemployment claims as needed. May oversee weekly payroll for designated Apex Southeast Trade Partner businesses, including commission processing.

Ensures accurate HRIS maintenance and reporting of job-related information, including titles, reporting structures, FLSA classifications, and Workers' Compensation codes, to maintain data integrity.

Coordinates safety, compliance, and training initiatives with specified Apex Southeast Trade Partners, including tracking monthly safety training activities.


Processes workers' compensation claims, collaborates with insurance carriers on return-to-work strategies, and works with locations to ensure adherence to protocols and restrictions.

Assists leadership in implementing and deploying HR standard operating procedures across the employee life cycle.


Facilitates terminations and offboarding processes, including revoking system access, agency reporting, and final pay and benefits distribution.

Supports the Director of Human Resources with data reporting for annual internal, external, and compliance audits.

Assists in the implementation of changes to job structures and compensation frameworks.

Performs other relevant duties as assigned by leadership.

Required Skills and Abilities:


Comprehensive knowledge and experience in Human Resources disciplines throughout the employee life cycle, including onboarding, benefits administration, payroll practices, training, conflict resolution, compliance with employment laws, and terminations.

Familiarity with HRIS systems and their functionalities, including reporting and data management.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Strong time management abilities with the capacity to adapt to changing needs.

Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.

Ability to adapt and thrive within a rapidly growing team.

Willingness to travel up to 10 – 15%.

Education and Experience:

Required:


Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, OR a lesser degree with equivalent experience and relevant training or certification.


Two to five years of progressive experience in a Human Resources role with exposure to multiple disciplines across the employee life cycle.


Preferred:
Graduate degree in Human Resources or a business-related field.

SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification.

Extensive experience with ADP Workforce Now for payroll processing, benefits administration, and reporting.

$60,000 - $75,000, based on experience

Key Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the Regional President and collaborating closely with both the California Leadership Teams and Apex Partner Services Director of Human Resources, the Regional Human Resources Specialist will play a pivotal leadership role.

Areas of impact may include:
HR Process & Administration

Delivering a Best-in-Class onboarding experience for all new employees

Building and leading a team of HR specialists to support the region's rapid growth.


Fostering strong relationships with Market Presidents and General Managers to execute and manage HR programs and initiatives.


Ensuring 100% accuracy of employee data across all systems, providing assurance to key stakeholders that KPIs and reporting are reliable and consistent.


Leading the Risk & Safety program at the regional level to ensure compliance and success.

Partnering with Apex Corporate Development and Apex HR Operations to execute successful mergers and acquisitions.

Establishing expertise in California Employment Compliance across all HR functions.


Ensuring all employees receive necessary training and education in Compliance, Employee Relations, and Risk & Safety.

Talent Management & Engagement


Collaborating with the Regional President, MAPs, and GMs to build and lead Employee Retention Efforts, utilizing employee surveys and Culture/Retention initiatives.

Contributing to a culture of performance accountability.

Assisting in the management of industry-leading engagement and management development training.

Business Impact & Technology

Becoming the regional expert on people technologies to leverage full functionality.

Aligning HR metrics with business objectives.

Qualifications:
Candidate Requirements

Bachelor's degree in business or a related field, OR a lesser degree with additional relevant experience

5 – 10+ years of prior HR Generalist experience across all key areas in a leadership capacity

HR Certification or Micro-Credential in California Employment Law is strongly preferred

Highly motivated and comfortable working independently

Excellent skills in developing and managing metrics while maintaining a People First approach

Ability to effectively communicate HR processes in simple terms for non-HR employees

Strong experience in leading and driving processes

Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and teamwork

Able to operate effectively even with incomplete or limited information

Outstanding time management and organizational skills

Growth mindset with the ability to adapt and work within budgetary constraints
